Horspower rating for 4th gen max?

I read through the FAQ and it didn't state it. The reason I ask is that I rode in a friends '99 5 speed and he boasted that it had 300 horspower. I was under the impression that it had 190 for this year.

well if you add 190 from the HP + the 205 of torque - the 95 HP of the nitrous shot = 300 total

thanks guys, I was positive that it was rated at 190. My mother in law has a 98 SE and I researched these cars heavily as I wanted to get one.

My friend was adamant about the 300 HP. he kept telling me to look it up in the manual in the glove compartment. who knows? maybe he is just repeating what the saleman said. Some will say anything to make a sale.

add a supercharger and then maybe he has 300hp... but stock 300hp, it's that is true, then a lot of 4th geners are losing out on an extra 110hp

There's nothing wrong with 2988 being rounded up to 3.0

Mazda (sorta) rounded up their 1148cc rotary engine to 1.2 - they still sold it as a 1.1L, but it's stamped 12a (rotary engines came/come in 10A, 12A, 13B, 20B each being an approximation of their liter rating - 1.0, 1.1, 1.3, 2.0).

You guys are missing the point. The dude's friend was boasting that his car had 300 HP. He never said anything about it being stock 300 HP. Granted he did not say anything about the mods either. Give him the benefit of doubt or ask him to clarify what he meant.

Maybe he should have adjusted the title accordingly because from the current title...

Well, based on the thread subject, he could have been asking the most HP you can put in a 4th gen. The answer there is how much money do you have to throw at the project?

I've seen 1000 HP cars - it's not so much a matter of what mods to put; it's more a function of how much money you have to spend on making whatever car you choose go faster.

Read the other threads that shodog posted. It wasn't about mods or any of that crap. The guy was looking in the manual to try and prove the 300 hp. Sure seems like he was trying to say he had stock 300 hp.

I dont really know who's missing the point? lol

This guys car has no mods in fact it is a lower level model that has steel wheels and hub caps. While his car felt fast from the passenger seat, so does quite a few other cars.

I am tempted to race him with my 6mt G35 which has *40 less horsepower* than his Maxima. He shouldn't beat me too bad

Ah, math FTL.

Think about how large a cubic decimeter is. That's about a 4" cube. Do you really think that 300 of those will fit in 3 liters? (Hint: VQ30 displacement: 182ci ) 3000cc is 3dm^3.

Anyway, 190hp stock, your friend is a tard.

/thread.

Why is this thread 2 pages long? 190hp, 205 ft-lbs of torque. Your friend is an idiot. /thread
