Getting power to my new power seats

Scored a set of power leather seats from the junkyard this weekend, but there doesn't seem to be any power at the stock connector under my seats (98 SE with cloth). I can't find a fuse for power seats anywhere in the car (or in my wife's 95 GLE that has a power seat) so I'm kinda lost. Thanks for any tips.

I just did this install yesterday on my 97se and it all matched up. Your 98 se didnt come power with the cloth seats? I have the power on the driver side not passenger.

No, they were completely manual adjustment cloth seats. Power connectors were under each seat though, but there's no juice getting to em. Gotta figure it out.

I originally wasn't gonna mention what I paid incase I wanted to sell em, but I got both fronts and the rear back cushion for $36. Now I just gotta find a rear butt cushion. That should be fun... probably end up paying a high price at a fancier junkyard.

Get some leather Conditioner/cleaner on those jokers. They look good though for the price.

yeah, I gotta give em some love... for the moment, they're looking alright for a quick clean-up and some armor-all. Definitely looking good for $36. Really need to do something about this though...

yeah, they're always 1/2 price on the weekends at that junkyard, and it was indeed a very lucky find. Just sux that now I gotta find the rear bottom cushion, and that'll either take me forever, or I'll have to pay more than I paid for everything else. Ah well.

on drivers side did you see two connectors ? but really even is you got the main one connected, the smaller one only controls the tilt part of the seat your back leans up against. weird though, just thinking why does passenger seat do both functions with only one plug ? lol

i have never had any trouble plugging them in, but is tough working them out. you sure they are connected or plugged in all the way?

what if its the seats ? but if so then how or why ?

Yep, there's 2 plugs on the driver's seat. Small one is for the seat belt detector (my cloth seat had this plug used) and the large one is for the seat adjustment functions. Seats work perfectly, with the wire I cut off the donor car, I jumped it across my drill battery and they operate just fine. Tested my plugs under the seats... no voltage. Figured there was an un-filled fuse slot somewhere, but I can't find any mention of a seat fuse anywhere, in my car or the wife's 95 GLE that has a working power seat. Strange.

I did this a couple of months ago and searched and searched but couldn't find the answer.

There is a circuit breaker up under the dash that you need to buy to hook this up. If you are laying down on your seat with your head under the dash, it will be on the right hand side. Go to your dealer and tell them that you need the circuit breaker for power seats and they should be able to order it for you. I don't have the part number, but the piece is white. As soon as you plug that in your power seats will work.

Who knows... I'm just spoiled with the dirty-cheap self-pull 1/2 price weekend yard by me. Ah well, I'll make some calls, see how much they're asking. Shouldn't be too ridiculous, but we'll see.

A circuit breaker? Strange. I'll have to check it out under the dash in wifey's car and see how it works. There has to be a cheaper method of getting 12v to the seats without buying some part from the dealer (like jumping it or putting an in-line fuse in there). BUT, if I have to buy it, at least the father-in-law will get it at cost from the dealership he works at.

Thanks a lot, I figured eventually someone else would see my post that had the same problem.

I did hear that you could just use a wire to jump it across, but at the time I didn't know where to put the wire. I figured I would buy the part and then I could see where to put it. I was right.

I can't remember how much the part was, but it was worth it to finally have power to my seats.

Undestandable. Guess I'm just lucky to have a 2nd Maxima with power seat, so I can figure it out on that car and jumper it on my car. Thanks again, man.

Thanks. maxfan hooked me up though... there was an empty connector under the dash right where he said (plus I found a fuse/relay location diagram on autozone.com, and it mentioned circuit breakers). Cut the connector off, stripped the wires, twisted em together... seats work perfect. I'm eventually gonna get in there and put a fuse between em (or grab the actual circuit breaker from the junkyard). Either way... they now work perfectly.

Thanks maxfan... as I adjusted the seat this morning on my way into work (first time driving the car since I put the seats in) I was thanking you.

zack, I did get 3 out of 4 of the leather door inserts, but since I'm missing one (driver's door), I probably won't put em in. I actually like the lighter color of the grey cloth in there, gives a nice contrast. The black leather inserts just make for too much plain black in the car. If anything, I might re-cover my cloth inserts with a nicely grained grey vinyl.

only set of inserts I'm seeing on ebay cost about $40 shipped for some glue-on covers. I think I'll probably either try to cover em myself, or just leave it alone.

As for the circuit breaker, I'll nab that for free this weekend.
