im going to use 3rd gen inserts since they are 2" shorter and can handle up to 500 in/lb springs. only down side is that you cant just turn a **** to adjust them. i am very close to buying them but i have been collecting other parts 1st. i have stillen camber plates and GC coilovers so far.
as for cutting them up, its simple. any cutter will work, from a tubing cutter (like exhaust cutter) to a reciprocating saw. google koni install and you will find many sites.

well then.... i didnt even look.....anyway i am def going with Konis and prolly regular ol springs now....i got a letter from the IRS and i miscalculated my tax return so now Coilovers are definately out....i have to hold off on my Z Brake upgrade for a month or 2 and sacrafice 2 news tires for auto-x so instead of 4 i got toget 2.....THIS SUCKS

you should pick up a set of used eibachs or GC c/o. too bad you sold the agx, since they are great for the money. i just picked up some used parts for dirt cheap compared to new. just keep you eye open.
im not sure what class you want to be in for auto x, but even stock springs with adjustable struts, sticky tires, and a RSB is a huge improvement over stock.
well i ordered some Progress Springs...since i am ona tight budget now and cant get Coilovers i made a Compromise with pretty decent handling, drop, price, and somewhat decent ride of the Progress Springs....and but still going with Koni Yellows....there is one thing i couldnt find were spring rates for them...anyone know...and Sutter i have budgeted for the Z brakes and i will end up being in STX....i havent heard much talk of Koni Yellows with Progress...maybe this will turn out to be a nice combo....maybe next year i can get some coilovers...or upgrade to Custom Rated GCs
i dont know the rates for progress, i asume they are less than eibach, but higher than the s techs. make sure you trim the bump stops enough (maybe even drill some holes in them to make them softer) and think about trimming the koni insert for more travel. maybe get some rear mounts used to save a few bux.

just stick with the stock bumps/boots that you have. trimming the insert is time consuming, but basically you just cut some of the threaded part on the bottom off. there are many ways to do it to i wont get into detail on them. it ranges from welding to just the use of washers.

get some new dust boots if they are really torn up. i used rancho boots from VIP. they are similar to the rear boot in size, but will fit on the front with minimal effort. they are like $3 each. i had the kyb boots but they ripped quicker than stock, so i have stayed away from them.
there are very few people here with them.....i am excited.....now i am pissed because i my mom fronted me money to get all the stuff for my car so I COULD go coilovers but i am not because my springs arrived today and ordring KONIs monday....and ill have to get boots....and i can now do my brakes YAY
ill have the 3rd gen inserts, for the front soon. ill install them along with my stillen camber plates. i may get b14/b15/p11 rear struts as they are 1" shorter. couple all this with my GC coilovers and bens rear mounts. its should be pretty sweet.
it depends on what spring you are using. with the GC i wont have to drop the collar to lower the rear of car, which will help keep most of the amount travel. if you pair them with a regular drop spring the car will be 1" lower in the rear, and may have even less travel than with the original strut.
as for using the storter insert up front, its a big plus with the use of any drop spring or sleeve coilover.
