Extended Rev limit ?

Extended Rev limit ?

So I'm auto and wondering if the TCM shifts according to the rev limiter or if it has a specific shift point programmed in. This is probably a stupid question but I want to be sure, I plan on getting an extended rev limit. Also some one posted that TS does not reprogram our ecu's anymore? Is this true? I'm waiting on an email back from them, but if anyone has experience you can let me know, thank you. Looking to pull some more power from the car without anyone being able to phsically tell.

Ok I'm trying to find out when my auto trans will shift. The stock redline is at 6500 but the auto trans shifts at 6000-6100. With my mevi I think i have seen 6300 in first only. So if I raise my rev limit to 7200 will the car shift at 6700-6800? So I'm going to guess that the TCM takes it information off the engine RPM and the rev limiter stored in the ecu along with throttle position to "know" when to shift

Raising you rev limiter will not change the shift point. Its programmed into the TCM.

if you get the ecu with an extended rev you will have to manually shift into each gears in order to use the extended rev limit. I think you might be able to send the tcm to jwt to upgrade but i don't know if they can change shift points.

My 1-2 shifts at 6500 not sure about the 2-3. Don't wanna try it she's got too many miles lol....... How many rpm's can you safetly put on a vq motor??

A hell of a lot, these engines will last quite a while if given proper maintenance.

2-3 is only about 75 if you're WOT, so it's not like you're doing 100+ or anything.

Your Tach may say 6500 but if you put a consult or OBDII reader you will get the TRUE RPM.

JWT will change the shift point on you TCM for $495. Great deal. Yup gotta luv old JWT.

Yes mine too. Dead on 6500 in both 1-2 and 2-3. Sounds to me as if zander's tranny is less than 100% kosher. Coming up to 6500 in 2nd, it feels to me as if 6500 is the right shift point, I can't explain it because of course I haven't been past 6500, but I just get the 'feeling' that after 6500 output will be dropping off rapidly. Of course, my Max is strictly stock at the moment. I suppose if zander's motorcar is modded then after-6500 would be worth exploring.
Also, are the standard valve springs up to it? Many of these motors have a lot of miles! On most of my cars except the Jag, I've routinely taken the head off and done the valve seats, put in new guides, replaced the valves and changed the springs for new stronger stage-1 springs, usually dual-coil. I suppose I will have to take a look in the serious engine talk part of the forum.

- No I was wrong. Of course I am not generally peering closely at the revcounter when running it WOT! I just tried it today and it changed at exactly 6100 in both 1-2 and 2-3, at which point I was coming up to 70 mph and a tight bend, so I had to lift off.
This is annoying! I feel like I'm losing out on 400 rpm of power band!

Mine has shifted @ 6000-6100 since the day I bought it. So has every other auto 4th gen that I've driven, as well as all the 5th gens(3.5L included) I've driven.

If you saw a dyno, you wouldn't be saying that.

Ok sweet Jime, I've got some time before I have the money for the ecu upgrade anyway. Might as well wait a little longer and send you the funds for this mod at the same time. Man you really have to pay to play with this car lol!
