Lame ET @ 119mph today at the track
Lame ET @ 119mph today at the track
Went to the track today with the turbo car sortof on a whim. Hadn't even touched the turbo car since around Halloween I think, maybe longer. Called the insurance company to put the insurance back on it and fired it up. Adjusted the clutch some because I decided it was grabbing too low, did some pulls in it to make sure everything was OK, accidentally hit 15.5psi lol oops. I think I got a bit of detonation between 14 and 15.5psi one one run, so I dialed it back to 12.5psi (93 pump of course).
So today I went to the track and met up with MikeD because we wanted to see what his car would do on the ET Streets. Also met up with maxmaxima91 Jeremy and his brother Adam with a turbo civic and their buddy Mike with a 240.
I wasn't expecting anything big since I am still running the exact same setup as last fall when I popped the HG a little (120 compression in one cylinder vs 165-170 in the rest, so probably down about 5% on power). I went in hoping primarily not to break anything and to be able to make the 170 mile trip back home. Secondary goal was to trap 113-114 like I did last time out.
Track we went to was one I haven't been to since January 2002. Just your average podunk track in the middle of nowhere, not overly fast nor overly slow, etc. Last time I was there I went like 14.6 @ 94.5 with just a ypipe on my old black car, pretty average.
Anyways I was just running some dry-rotted crappy all season 215-60-15s on stock tires so traction was nonexistent regardless of track prep, though I do think track prep was pretty poor. I walked the starting line and first few feet and it wasn't very tacky at all.
Weather conditions were 29.95mmHg, 55 deg, 662' elev. That gives a DA of 658', pretty good but not the best I've run in.
First pass I went 13.61 @ 116.57mph with a 2.31 having to lift in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear because I started veering towards the wall while spinning/hopping the tires. I was very surprised with that trap speed. I was shifting as close to 6000-6200 as I could.
Next pass I took it easier on the launch but it didn't matter. Pulled a 2.25 and went 13.49 @ 117.50. That run I only went 1/4 throttle all the way through first so wheelspin wasn't retarded there (though it was present), 2nd and 3rd were more spinning and some hop.
Third pass I went like 1/4 throttle again in 1st and shifted out of 1st at around 5000rpm since first is pointless anyhow, pedalled it in 2nd and 3rd and went 13.42 @ 117.81 with a 2.22 short time.
Final pass I bolted on Mike's ET Streets. I had no intention of launching this one I just was going for a "traction" pass. Didn't do a burnout, did a tiny dry hop to get the rocks off the tires. I just did a "street launch" so 1st gear was a big bog and then a bunch of wheelspin. Spun them into 2nd but I think they hooked pretty well in 2nd gear for the most part, banged third and then rode out fourth, picked up the slip and it said 12.90 @ 118.99mph with a 2.21 60'. That MPH blew my mind as did all the other ones. That's more than 4mph faster than my previous best trap which was 114.6mph, and 5.5mph faster than the last time I was at the track.
I went up to the line to make another run and since the clutch wasn't slipping at all on me at 14.5-15.5psi like it had before I decided I was really going to rip it on the launch this time. I was lined up with a modded EVO MR but it started misting and they called it a day so I didn't get to run again.
Other cars of note at the track that I actually saw run were a new E55 AMG that went 12.60 @ 113mph, an Evo from AMS that went 10.x @ 142mph. There were quite a few cars I'd like to have seen but didn't get the chance to, a 350z, some turbo VWs, some more Evos, some DSMs, some LS1s, an E46 M3, etc.

Holy crap that is 11.7 territory with a 1.7 slick launch. All on a cracked Head gasket lol and no juice. I think you could beat Hal's 11.9 time but without nitrous.
We were going to on my next run but it got rained out. The other runs we didn't see much point and frankly mike was too pissed off to be in the mood to videotape since his car was giving us trouble all day.
Niceeeeeee! Heat up the slicks and launch it like you dont give a poop and your in the 11's! Juice it and I'm in trouble
Glad to se your getting it going this season.
I just recharged my AC today, muuhhahahahaha. Ice Ice Baby!!! It was getting too hot when I was out tuning at 1.5bar muuhahahaha. I want a RWD car soooooo bad, but what I got is what I got.

Neal, since you already have a blown headgasket, you should go to a track closer to you, crank up the boost and go for some all out 1/4 runs and see what you can do. Since you will probably be replacing the engine anyways, see what you can get out of her.

Well Do what most maxima's do when you put too much power on them ....the dam tranny breaks

Best is 13.5 @ 111mph on street tires IIRC. Have yet to get a pass with my slicks.

Nearly 180kph in 400metres...outstanding...I'm 40kph (25mph) slower than you at the trap...
