I found that my car is prewired, but the connections to the fog lamps don't match up. The "free" wires I found were taped back on the same ones going to the front clearance lights in the bumpers. They have a black and reddish wire (may even be brown). The fog lamps on the other hand have a black and green wire. Like I said, the connections between the two don't match; so should I just splice the wires and solder them?

My second question involves the relay included in the kit. Basically I don't want to use the harness that came with the kit b/c I would have to run wires all over the place. I noticed that there's a box (under the coolant reservoir) that has Fog Lamp written on it. Are these fusible links or fuses? I don't have one and one was not included with the kit. Should I just buy one from Nissan (how much?)?

Sorry for the long post, but I tried to fully explain all of my questions/problems. Thanks in advance for the help.

I'm not sure which fogs you're talking about. Stock fogs should have the same color, but if it doesn't, just match black to black (ground) and connect the other two

if you want to use the stock wiring, you will hvae to add the switch on your dash (right next to the cruise control switch); there should be a harness for it somewhere back in there, you will also need to add a relay where you mentioned under the hood. This needs to be a nissan relay so that it will fit the connector. Go to a nissan dealer and then can probably sell you these parts

Craig,
If I buy a fog light switch from Courtesy, is it possible to wire a set of aftermarket fogs using the switch? I would like them to automatically turn off when I turn the running lights off. Basically, they should only come on if I hit the switch or if I turn the lights on, but should turn off if I turn the lights off. I currently do not have any wires ran. I looked under the bumper and founf nothing, so this would all be new to me.
Thanks,
C.D.

yes, you could do that, you will need to make sure all your prewiring is there under the bumper (connector going to each fog light) and behind the dash where the switch will connect; besides taht, you will also need the fog light relay which goes in one of the relay boxes under the hood in front of the battery
the fogs you buy will have two wires - most likely, one black(ground) and another color maybe red
just connect these wires to the respective wires coming from the stock connectors
this setup will let you turn on the fogs while the headlights are on and when you turn it to parking lights or off, the fogs will go off
if you do the stock thing with the foglight rewire on my page, you will be able to use your fogs with headlights, parking lights, and high beams and they will still turn off when you turn off your lights

Thanks a lot Craig! These are GXE fogs. I've already cut the plastic part underneath and installed the switch in the dash. All I need now is to get the relay and solder the lamps to the wires and mount them. Woohoo!

I have absolutely NO wires already. Where can I get the relay? When I start on this, will you be able to help me out?

when I had my 89GXE I added fogs, the only hard part is running a wire through teh firewall

if you dont have wires already there, you will have to run your own and you wont need to buy a nissan relay; you can just buy a standard automotive relay from a car parts store (or if you buy a foglight kit from a store, it may include the relay)

yes, I can help you
let me know what you're looking at and I'll let you know
you can email me at craigbrace@hotmail.com , IM me or ICQ me

I appreciate it Craig. Is there a specific type of fogs that I should be looking for? Wattage, lens, light, etc.? Specific brand? I know that you can get factory ones from courtesy but I don't particularly like the rectangular lens. I would prefer something eliptical.

go for something you like the looks of
basically you can get any type you want; more expensive ones may give you better light output, but I don't think it's gonna be that different unless you compare some $300 PIAA ones to some $20 pep boys ones

One thing is for sure: I want it to shine white light and not yellow or amber. Is this due to s type or color of the lens?

depends on color of bulb and color of lense
white bulb + white lense = white light
yellow bulb + white lense = yellow light
white bulb + yellow lense = yellow light
etc
