I'm very curious about this also....if a lightwieght 17 is lighter than the stock 16's...than I might go with aftermarket rims after all.....

'97 SE - stock wheel, 16 x 6.5" rim, weighs about 21 lbs.
could never find out exactly...

If you're trying to calculate your unsprung weight, don't forget the tire.

A larger wheel will weigh more,
but the rubber you wrap around it will weigh a little less.

Bigger rims doesn't always mean heavier!

This is not always true. I replaced my '97 SE stock 16"x6.5" rims with 18"x7" Enkei racing RS5's and they only weigh 20lbs each! I have Nitto Extreme NT555's (225/40ZR18 92W) wrapped around them. Sweet!

Yes, you are right -
a larger wheel doesn't necessarily weigh more than a smaller one.
But only if they are different styles.

However, if you are comparing apples to apples, or the same wheel style,
the larger wheel will always weigh more than the smaller one.

BUT I was wrong about the lower profile tire weighing less.
Apparantly the lower profile requires extra belting and a stiffer sidewall so they weigh more.
