I talked to a tech at a tuner shop here in Chicago about doing work on my Maxima. He refused and said the only Nissan they specialize in is the 350Z. However he started giving me suggestions in terms of performance modifications. One of which was to take the Mass Air Flow Meter from a 300ZX and put it in my car. Has anyone done this? Does it help? Or does he not know what he is talking about?

 

300ZX-TT MAF is a good upgrade for most 90's Nissans where the stock MAF could not meter enough air to make 300+ hp, generally only a problem on turbo'd engines such as the SR20DET. Just slapping on a Z32 MAF won't give you more power. It just allows you to meter the air for when you do make 300+ hp.

 

So your saying it is not good for the 5.5 gen. Right?

 

Unless you're making 300 FWHP...

 

If the guy is so ignorant that he doesn't realize that you have the exact same engine in your car as the 350Z, you shouldn't be dealing with him anyway. The Z32 MAF does not go on your car, the one you have is the same size and just as good.

What shop was it in Chicago? I have some experience with a number of shops there, just curious.

WTF that's weird... do you know the name of who you spoke to? If not that what the guy looked like? I know that shop and for the most part they really know their stuff.

What are you looking to do with the car?

 

I called them on the phone and asked them about installing headers. They said they only work on 350Z's. I asked him about performance mods in general and then he suggested the above.
