I own a 2k and have been looking at the 6gen's. I have also been reading about the issues the 6gen's have and am alittle nervice about investing in one. So, I am wondering, to all the 6gen'ers would you buy/lease the car again today after having it for as long as you have?

In other words, would you do it all over again or have gone another route?

 

I too came from a 5th gen. I have had no problems with my '05 to date, 17k miles. I love my 6th gen.

 

I too am curious about your thoughts on the 6th Gen. I guess I'm a little late posting to find out info seeing as I am picking up my 04 from the dealership tomorrow

 

It's a great car, different feel than 4th or 5th gen. It's bigger, but not less sporty. The power is definitely there when you want it. I recommend getting an RSB to enhance the handling.

You should be happy still coming from a 5th gen, most are. The only ones that have any real problems were the early 2004's, and that was with shimmy. Other than that these cars are pretty good still. I have a 2005 and its about to be a year with her, and i still get that great feeling every time i know its my car and start it up. The 06 is the last model you can get in a 6speed or even a real transmission, the new 07's as you may know are all CVT. But the inside is redone and maybe well worth it to you, but thats all up to you. Take them for a test drive when they come out and you decide. Oh and if i had a chance to redo it all over again i would get the navi and prob lease for 24 months maybe even 36, but that all depends on what you want to put down, i put $10k down and kinda wish i kept the money and just leased instead, i cant recoup my $10,000 until i pay the car off in 5 years and sell it for $10k, Good Luck.

 

Depends on if you are still looking for a fast, luxury style family car. The 5th gen is, IMO, a sportier type car than the 6th gen (oh man, here it comes). My friend with a 6th gen loves it but wishes he had gotten a G35 coupe or Z. I, however, love the max. It is the best of both worlds in terms of performance (in dry and snow, I live in MD so its mostly dry) and size/space and comfort. Plus with all the bolt on mods these days the 6th gen maxi is putting 225-230+ to the pavement. Throw is some N2O and WEEEHHAA! Plus there a ton of guys on this board who pioneer new mods all the time. Always something new to blow some $$$ on. Oh, and the ladies love it.

Yes, I'd do it again. I've only had a couple of minor issues with the car while logging 38K miles (and both issues were covered by warranty--no questions asked). I'm not totally thrilled with the "quality" of the interior, but am happy to see that the '07 has addressed that issue. The biggest issue that I have is the turning radius.

I will be turning in my car in twelve more months (lease), and have already started weighing the options. The G35 just doesn't do it for me (I think it is my perception that it is a much "smaller" vehicle); the TL is nice; beyond that, I'm looking at the next step up (5 series BMW, A-6, or Benz 320) but the monthly nut increases exponentially in doing so.

Bottom line, there is a distinct possibility that it will be Maxima number 6 for this driver. And I might add, I like the look of the '07.

 

I bought an 04 SL two weeks ago and have loved it so far. I looked very hard for any hint of a shimmy during the test drive, didn't feel any, and went for it.

jc53, I hadn't heard anyone else complain about the turning radius, but you're right. It's not too great, especially when trying to pull a quick u-turn.

To answer the original question, though I'm only a few weeks in, yes, I would buy it again.

 

I would do it all over again, I have an early '04 and have had no problems except the peeling grill and skyview replacement (all under warranty)

I used to have a 2K2 max and now I have an 06 max with only a little over 7K miles on it. Personally I wish I had stuck with the 2K2. I do like the style and room of the 2K6 but it seems to lack the power my 2K2 did. Mostly cause its a heavier car and has 18 inch wheels instead of 17 inch like the 2K2. All in all I think the 6th gen max is ok. If I had to do it all over again I would have stayed with the 2k2 max

 

I have an 05 SE and I love it!! Have about 17k miles on it and have not had a problem with it.

I love both cars, but I love my 6th gen more...

 

I love the look on the drivers faces when I'm in second gear and slip into third and third into fourth...well that last one less often....Especially WRX's.
I have a few mods like: UDP, CAI, FSB, removed resonator with custom piping, Trenz Grill, etc, tinted the windows, painted the calipers...you get the idea. I love my O5 SE Auto sunroof. She is hot, she get's stared at a lot and she is a real sleeper and highway cruiser.

I have had my 04 for 3 years now (bought her in 4/03). Still LOVE this car's looks and power.

 

Sick happy with my ride, only 2 minor problems in 2+ years and 1 recall installed. Good luck...

 

Ive had a lot of things fixed in 55k on my 04 i got in the summer of 03...but i still love the car...so I guess that means its a good.
Here are the things that happened in order of their occurance:

lumbar broke
power seat broke
cd changer replaced, skipping
skyview replaced, warrenty
occasional shimmy bc steering is so sensitive
abs actuator broke ($1400, paid for by dealer's goodwill)

if i think of something else ill post it...honestly if it wasnt for the damn abs and not having it all winter when i needed it...id say everything else was no big deal bc it was warrentied...and i suspect the lumbar and seat were due to the recall of the wire that was later fixed (i dont know what they actually did, it said on the workorder something was replaced though) so..if your car had this done under recall you should be fine.....it still goes like hell and is fun to drive at 55k, no noticeabvle decline in anything.

 

5th gen is an awesome model, i never owned one but i always loved the look and how the drive. The 6th gen however to me is the best maxima to date. I love the car, working for a dealership I will tell you first hand, that 04's were a rushed out model with problems here and there. I have an 05 with 9,000 miles on it now, which 8,000 were driven pretty damn hard and the car doesnt even give me a noise. I had 1 tire rod replaced under warranty but thats not nissans fault, thats NY's for there crappy roads ( theres only so much you can avoid lol). Either way you will love the car I can tell you that much. Turns heads from the looks, sounds ( modded of course ) and gets compliments inside and out all day long. dont worry you should be fine, the main problem with them is the front struts...other than that there really fine. Usually within early life of the vehicle nissan replaces them with g35 struts to fix the problem, dont know if thats the case with yours....either way dont worry just enjoy your ride.

 

I love it.......12,000 miles and nothing major. Yes, I would do it again in a heartbeat, in fact I would get one for my Husband who loves to drive mine!

The 6th Gen is nice. I have an 01 & an 06. They are both great cars, the 6th gen is definately quieter, the 5th handles a bit better. The seats are a bit wider in the 6th gen too, I like the snugness of the 5th better.

These are small points though. Overall the 6th gen is a great car, You won't go wrong with a 6th gen.

 

lol next time....btw we also own infiniti,chysler,jeep,dodge,and honda if any of those are next.
