My rear ball bearings need to be replaced. Does anyone have any advice?

 

DIY, purchase a new rear hub assembly.

 

Why is that?

 

because the rear hubs are generally easier to replace than the fronts. You can DIY quite easily. Just go out and buy the assembly, and start wrenching.

 

What size are the rear bearings?

 

You replacing yur bearings is it because it's making annoying sound? Because some people including me having continuously clicking noise when they cruise slowly. They think one is the axels or 2nd is the wheel bearings. I'm just wondering is that yur problems, so i'll know exactly what it is so I can fix mine. Thanks

 

only recently when drive slow or fast there is a constant ticking sound on every rotation. I was told by a few people that it is probably my bearings. Is that incorrect? I dont think I am going to replace my hub unless I have too.

 

Same here, i dun think you need to replace it, just try to fix it see if it goes away, if not i guess have to replace it. Let me kno the result.

So you mean to tell me if the bearing race has groves, and the bearings itself has a blue tone just slap on more wheel bearing grease and call it a day huh?

 

i reallly dont kno anything about fixing or replace wheels bearing, it never happent to me before. So i got no clue, but what i heard about solving this problems are either axles or wheels bearing.

it is a lot of work(front)...and don't leave any ofthe old bearing parts on the car...change it all. It makes a world of a difference...for the rear...the bearings come with the hub...less expensive if u get the non abs one...even if u have abs it'll fit, but no more abs(if u don't mind that) or get the one withthe abs sensor for like $100 more.

And the write up is for the front wheel bearing. Rear you have to replace the whole assembly. Check the FSM/Haynes.

 

I spoke with my loacl dealership and apparently Nissan doesn't make the rear Hub Assembly for a 96 with ABS anymore. I will need to purchase 2 new rear hub assemblies, 2 dust caps, and 2 speed sensors. Roughly $600 in parts.

I'll check the scrap yard.

I called around and neither Napa nor Advance Auto has a rear Hub Assembly and told me my only option is to have the dealer do it. Is their another less expensive option? I'm now thinking I might as well get a new car.

 

haver a dealer order the part....and do the work urself.....and if its a clicking sound it might be an axle....bearings are ususally more of a groaning or humming sound

 

4th Gen Max parts seem to be just available as rebuilts now. Calipers first and now Rear hubs??? Prices seem the same as new from the dealer though.

 

Search car-part.com. Found many places selling it (with ABS) for ~$70.
