High Flow Cat Converter (Ebay)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/95-99...58554343QQrdZ1

Just curious...has anyone had any problems installing this high flow cat? (Alignment or quality) Main reason is that my stock cat is toast and somewhat clanking around and I have a feeling it's clogging my exhaust since my car has been running really bad lately. The $30 shipped price tag is looking really good right now, and i could care less if it actually works or not...

if your stock cat is toasted anyway, why not? the worst that could happen is a few months down the road that one will clog up and you buy another one off ebay or go to the auto parts and get the stock. either way, if you need to change it, i dont see why not

but thats just me, apparently the only guy that responded?!

good luck man

Keep in mind that this will not pass emissions.

Not worried about that...in CT it's just a simple CEL on = fail, off = pass

haha nice work, but ya I know neither of them will let you pass, they are high flow cats...basically more of a suggestion than an actual cat converter lol

As a matter of fact, I remember when I did emmisions last august, on the summary printout, it said my catalytic converter failed the test, but they passed me because of no stored CEL codes. Keep in mind this is with a y-pipe and a non-working cat

Yea, its funny cuz they let cars like mine pass but they wont pass my mom tracker which runs mint except for throwing a generic EGR flow code (chevy tracker)

how does it smell without a cat? reason i ask is that i may be doing this as well, the only thing holding me back is saving the environment (a very good argument)

that cat is baisically a tiny resonator, its stright through. i got one, but only put it on for the track.
oh and it may not come with a gromet for your o2 sensor.
you might need to make a hole and weld it on.
i had a hard time, that steel it really strong

I bought one for my Honda, and all i have to say is...What a waste of money that s*** was.

ps..Thats not a cat, its a "resonator" which they portray to be a cat..

oh man good call on the o2 sensor i didn't even think about asking them about that.

You say it was a waste of money? why do you say that? they already state you won't pass emissions with it installed so of course it isn't going to be a good cat.

I got a cat from Cattman. 2year warranty, includes necessary hardware and Nissan gaskets. It's the only Maxima cat with proven dyno gains. Plug and play, passed emissions w/low numbers.

Yea, it doesn't bother me that it's just a resonator...I'm just looking for something to replace the clogged POS that's on there right now. Regarding the O2 sensor, I actually have a 97+ exhaust on my 96 so I had a hole in my exhaust which I had to plug, so I'll just unscrew the plug and put the O2 in there Problem solved

It portrays to be high flow, but its not...You won't notice any gains..

how can't there be a gain? its less restrictive...given it may not be much of a gain and i'm not saying it is a good thing to buy a cat that hurts the environment...but it has to be better than a clogged one that doesn't do anything. so maybe the gain could come from the fact that you save a bunch of money buying the cheap one and have $$ left over and get back some lost horsepower in the process.

Yes, I believe there will be minimal gain since you are relieving pressure. But I didn't buy this for the gains, I bought it to replace my current cat which is clanking around inside and possibly causing my car to stall when coming to a stop randomly. I've had a feeling for a while that it's been clogged (over 1 year) so I guess for $30 shipped, it's definatly worth it to fix this problem even if there is no gain. Also, now that I will be installing this, I will have a true headers back exhaust (y-pipe, cat, catback), which is pretty sweet, not that I really care though, since I've grown out of the whole car modding scene. I'm now into the bike modding scene, so if I ever want to go fast, I can just hop on my R1 and go as fast as I can handle, and it's a lot funner than driving my maxima

I have bought a megan cat of ebay and it sounds and looks pretty sweet. altough the only problem is that it screws up your computer and give you a cat problem type code. I am going to buy a 02 simulator and hopefully that works! my clutch just went bad tho

but anyway, unless your stock cat is toast, there really is no need in replacing it. now-a-days replacing stock cats with high flow cats gives you very little to no gain at all. just my 2cents...
