AC receiver/dryer, compressor replacement

Hi, guys,

I am a newbie and please help. I would appreciate it very much if you could post some methods on how to replace the receiver/dryer and compressor in a 1996i30t, which is basically a max. I will depressurize the ac system befor replacing the dryer and compressor. Where is the dryer in the car? This would be the second time I work on my car. The first time is to change the sparkplugs.

Thanks,

Sincerely,

Jun

the compressor is ridiculously easy, loosen the belt and take the 4 bolts off. detach the lines and done. the dryer isn't to bad, 3 bolts i believe. it is located on the driver side in the very front just behind the headlight. if you look straight down there is a little gap that you can see it from above. same for replacing it, remove the 2 lines and the mount that holds it in place. I am in the process of re doing my a/c also just waiting on the compressor (tavarish) best of luck

For the dryer replacement, should I do it from above the car or from under the car? Could you please wirte a few lines on how to do it step by step?

Thanks,

Jun

work from the top, it is too far of a reach from the bottom. unplug the battery then undo the connector at the top of the dryer. undo the in and out connectors and plug the lines to keep anything from getting in the lines(i just used a peice of tape) then loosen the clamp screw to allow the dryer to be removed. Slide it up and out of the car and unscew the connector from the dryer and put it on the new one if it doesn't come with one. Then reverse the steps, replace o-rings if needed and have the system evacuated and recharged.

i am doing this too right now. will finish tomorow monring. u also need to add 2 oz of ac oil to drier. i was told that Ester 100 will do the job. there was also PAG46 and PAG100. anyone know whats the correct oil to add? also there is no harm in leaving the ac pipes unpluged if u evacuate the system, right? the evacuation proceess gets rid of all moisture anyway.......or am i wrong?

btw. the canister holder was easier to get from the bottom of the car using 10mm socket. then with long extension use 10mm socket to undo the ac pipes. replace O-rings.

Use PAG 46. This is the spec. oil for our a/c systems.

ALSO: use WD40 to pull the drier out and slide it back in. don't open the drier right until u ready to install (as far as i know it cannot be exposed to air for too long) and remove relay box for easier access. for tools u only need 10mm socket and long extension.

about oil: one dealer said there is no such a thing as "ac oil" (idiot) other said use PAG134 or 136 i think......and none of the carry NISSAN brand. i had to go with what i had which was ESTER100

i do have another thing to say since i don't write much here anymore

in my case i had a leak from ac pipe right where it connects to drier, i installed new dried. but today after the recharge the leak was still there and machanic had to replace one of the lines. so basically it was a waist of time for me to replace the drier myself.

paid: ac drier $85 (came with presure switch), ac line $70, labor $65, evacuate & recharge & leak test $120 (you can find better deal on this) and i also paid $50 to find the leak before

total $340 + $50

if i just let the machanic do everything from the begining, it might have been cheaper or at least i wouldn't waist time installing the drier
