I wait about 30-45min. Usually I have plenty of time so it just chills outside for an hour or two.

Be careful to not over oil it. Let it stand up right so any excess can drain. Your fine after 1-2 hours, the longer the better though.

I have heard horror stories of people over oiling them, oil goes into the maf and so on and ruins evrything. I don't even use the oil I just clean mine out once a month and let dry completely.

Yeah, I take an old towel and let some of the excess oil soak in the towel before I install it.

if you havent read the directions already, its the oil that keeps dirt away. you might wanna use it next time.

I bought a paper filter that I put in for the day when I oil my K&N. After I get home from work I put in my clean freshly oiled K&N and put the paper one in a zip lock bag.

According to the directions on the can of oil you buy for the filter it says to leave it at least 30 minutes. It spray's on red so you can see which spots you have sprayed and which you haven't, therefore you shouldn't have to worry about spraying too much oil on it.

Well, I knocked the dirt out with a brush, then I washed it from the inside out with a hose. I let it dry in the sun for a few hours, then oiled it. I let the oil seep through for about an hour then I installed the filter. I forgot to plug the maf back in and started the car at which point the car threw a code. I immediately shut her down, plugged the maf harness in and it ran fine, but the CEL is still there. I will need to diagnose that tonight.

it probably threw a code because you unplugged the maf, the light should turn off after i think 2 or 3 drive cycles

Had the same problem w/CEL, after I unplugged the MAF and plugged it back.
The only way to clear the CEL is with a scanner or the ECM.

Thats exactly what I am thinking too. I will check the code tonight and reset it...hopefully it doesn't come back. I did that with my EGR CEL a while ago and it never came back *knocks on wood*.

Yikes!! The last time I did that (to another 4th gen that I had 8 yrs ago), it did something to the MAF because even after resetting the ecu, the code kept coming back. To make it worse, it was making my car hard-start. Took it to the dealer and they can't find the problem. Then they started blamming it on my aftermarket radio and said that the RCA cables are causing interference to the ECU and making it go haywire...I know that's BS.
