What's it gonna cost me??

Well, I've got a VERY nice 89 that's been in the family since 90. It's got 129k on it, and is almost mint. I realize the car is probably only worth about $1500, so that's what this dilemma is all about. I've been having troubles with the moonroof for a few months- the glass section worked fine, but the interior sliding cover quit working properly. One of the guides broke, but if you were careful with it, you could use it.

Anyway, now the problem. I just discovered that the moonroof glass is cracked. I have a 1k deductible on my insurance, so it looks like I'm going to eat it. Has anyone had theirs replaced? Know of someone parting out an 89 that I could buy the moonroof from? I'm thinking this is a dealer fix- anyone worked on their moonroof themselves?

Sheesh. Decisions.

na, it shouldn't be too difficult. i'm roam through the local junk yards and look for one. get one for $20 take apart the headliner, replace the glass and get the shade back on track while you're at it. that's a hefty deductable there..

You may also want to inspect for water damage too. I've had my fill of working on leaky sunroofs cough*Saturn sc1*cough, and I'd hate to see you replace your glass only to find that water had gotten to the rest of the system before you fixed the glass.

Oh and I feel your pain with the 1000 deductible or as I like to call it the speeding ticket delight (S.T.D.)

changing the glass is uber-easy shouldn't take you more than 20 minutes.
when I got my assembly recently i paid $15 for it.
I wish I knew then what I know now. that car would have been left with an intact interior, rather than the scrapheap I left it in.
since I fixed my roof, my sunshade now stays in the open position I got rid of the wind noise (tested up to 85 MPH so far)

Is there a manual that describes how to replace it? What years will fit my '89?

internetautomart- Sounds like you made the same assumption I did- that the whole headliner has to come out. Is that not true? Does it swap out from outside the car instead of inside?

Wow.

the glass on the spare is cracked (doesn't leak, but cracked)
it's just sitting around until I pull the motor then it goes in the garbage for the mexicans (not meant as a racial slam, just a statement of fact)
