VQ30 - what type of lifters do we have?

I've been reading about the dangers of SM oils and flat tappet lifters. the API tests for SM are apparently done on roller cams. I know the VQ30 has a "shim in the bucket" type lifter, but what exactly does that mean? how does it relate to the flat tappet vs. roller debate? guess i'm wondering if we should avoid SM oils with their low ZDDP. thanks.
