Hey everyone-
I've got a '91 SE (VG30E I think) and I've been toying with the idea of a cold air intake. Since it's my only car, driving it in the winter makes me wonder about ice/snow/etc on the filter. From what I gather the CAI sits in or near the wheel-well?? Correct me if I'm wrong about that, but is winter weather going to be a problem for a CAI? If you have any other suggestions, I'd like to hear them too. Thanks-

 

make sure you dont get water into it , you will kill your engine.

the CAI filter is normally mounted inside the fender so no snow should get at it directly.

As long as you don't park the car in a foot of water, then pull it out and let it freeze, then the filter won't have a problem.

I've driven through a few snowtorms and such in my VE w/ CAI and had no issues.

remember, the filter is inside the fender and protected by the plastic fender liner and sheet metal on the car. nothing should be getting to it unless you submerge the front end of the car in water.

 

Even though I've never driven through snow with my car, I have driven through many flooded street with my CAI and no problem. I don't think snow will be a issue with a CAI, but when it comes to driving through water, just use your common sense.

water never hurt any engine. as long as the filter is not completely submerged to the point that it no longer pulls air. any slight spray of water helps to clean out deposits inside the motor. just make sure that no dirty water is spraying directly onto the filter because it would get really dirty really fast.
