bbk problems 300zx/cobra

ok i have a 02 max and i just installed the cobra/300zx bbk...i used the brackets and rings that i got from jeff.....now i had to drill out the bracket to fit a bigger bolt that come on the 02's...the problem im having is that the rotor seems too big and is hitting the inside top of the caliper....but im only having this problem on the right side....its wierd...im guessing this kit wont work on the 02 models cuz i had to drill out the bracket??if anyone has any ideas or can help....i need it....the only options i can think of is A- mill down the outside diameter of the rotor...or B- grind down the inside top of the caliper a little...or C screw the kit all together!

I had some time to think about this. First of all, there are more than a few that have done this with no problems. But here is my thoughts.

If you have drilled out the holes to the exact size of your bolt, you should be fine. I've built in a few mm of clearance for this. I'll assume you drilled exactly center as there's already a hole there that can be used for centering purposed.

But if you drilled the holes even SLIGHTLY TOO LARGE, it will introduce tolerance problems. ie.. let's say you drilled the hole too big. Then you install the caliper onto the bracket. Because the hole is too big, it will allow the caliper to sit down further than it was designed. This will reduce the amount of space inbetween the top of the rotor and the inside of the caliper

i vote for option C - screw the kit... the thing is that most ppl don't realize that 300zx calipers ARE NOT DESIGNED for rotors of this size. They (calipers) have to be machined/milled/grineded so they can fit over cobra rotors.

I didn't have to touch the calipers on my car. Neither do the 4-gen or 5-gen guys.

I guess tons of us that use them are wrong? I use a BBK such as Jeffs and experience ZERO problems? What could he possibly be basing his comments on? LOL.

do u think i have not installed one of those cobra/300zx kits? could it be that your cobra rotors are SMALLER then the ones i used. or are they the same size as 300zx rotrs?
i really do not understand why some ppl are so stubborn and keep ignoring obvious misfit... oh, i know! there are money/selling involved with this kit.
yes, tons of ppl can be wrong, didn't you know that?

I don't know where to begin, this is so rediculous.... forget it! Joeyd Ignore what this guy has to say on this subject. Jeff92se's brackets work I know I used them on my 4th gen with no problems and I agree with him, how big of a hole did you re drill into the brackets. I'm guessing you've given up on this as I saw your kit for sale. Cheap price! BTW. If you still want to look at a cheap bbk, you could always go with 04-06 calipers and rotors they are a direct bolt on and the rotor is 12.6". I'm going this route as I didn't want to use the 300ZX calipers on my 5th gen because I needed huge 15mm spacers to clear my wheels and it just looks too wierd. Good luck

You really STILL have no idea what you are talking about. Then again, you have no technical reasons to back anything up. These parts flat out work. My parts work, Matt's parts work, this combo was originally done on the Z32 and it worked, people have put them on G20s, and it works, people have put Q45/J30 calipers on these 13" rotors and it works.

I've already owned someone else on this subject probably a year or two ago.

You think I actually get rich selling these parts? What a joke. Just further shows your lack of knowledge on this subject.

BTW. You had better scold AEM for offering their Honda oem caliper on bigger rotor kits too. :laugh

maxima.org containings probably the most scrutinizing group of ***** on the net. These parts have been installed and functioning great for 2-3 years.
