2003 bose 6 disc head unit

i have my 2000 up for sale now and came across an 03 gle, so out of curiosity i dont know how dumb this question is since im not too knowlegable on car audio ... if i were to replace the bose head unit is there a way to keep the 6 disc changer in the dash to work with the head unit?? ... if not, are there any 6 disc aftermarket head units out there? any help would be great, thanks.

Why not just get a HU that can play MP3's? You can get more than 6 CDs worth of songs on one CD and organize them however you want. That BOSE (Clarion) HU sucks anyway and going aftermarket on just the HU gives you decent sound IMO. This is what I did since I was on a budget and couldn't do the speaker replacement right now.

On my 02 replaced all the speakers and the head unit at the same time. I don't think you can use the bose speakers with an aftermarket HU because they are too low impedance.

The sound is much much better with a better HU. And you can use BOSE speakers with an aftermarket unit. This is what I used and works fine for me.

As far as better bass, I think it is improved, but not sure how long my stock sub is gonna last.

You can not hook the speakers directly to the aftermarket HU which is what I was referring to. If you choose to use the amplifier built into the Maxima and use the converter already posted in this thread, then yes, you can use the existing speakers.

However, the speakers suck, the amplifiers suck, and the factory HU sucks. I am a fan of replacing all 3.

Isn't the amp integrated into the stock HU? If you're on a budget, the BOSE speakers actually do not sound bad at all with a decent HU. But I'm not an audiophile so yea, replacing the whole system will get you the best overall sound. I plan to do mine a little bit at a time as I get disposable cash.

The amps are not located in the HU. If I recall correctly, it's in the trunk. It's been so long since I removed the factory system I don't recall exactly where it is.
