Possible to switch GXE steering wheel with SE?

It seems like it wouldn't be that hard to do, but is it possible to switch a GXE steering wheel with an SE spec one, and are there any adverse things that might happen if I do so?

Assuming your profile is correct and you have a 1990, it's a direct swap and all of the cruise buttons will still work. You need to get a 4-spoke non-airbag steering wheel. Airbag ones might work, too, but I am not sure about the cruise control unit on the inside.

You can also use the steering wheel out of a non-airbag 90+ 300xz or a 240sx. The 240sx ones are a little harder to find with cruise control, though.

Hmmm... I have the 300ZX wheel with no airbag and with buttons, but I'm having a tough time getting it on my Maxima GXE while maintaining the horn and cruise controls. Any suggestions?

It should be a direct swap. Did you tighten the nut down all the way so that the contacts meet? Did you check the plug on the horn?

I have an s13 steering wheel that is the same as the 300zx one, except it says "Nissan" in the center instead of a "Z."

Here is a pic of mine -- cruise and horn work just like normal.

Yup, profile is correct, and that's the exact wheel I was hoping would fit (I like it better than the 92-94 type and obviously any GXE type). I didn't think there'd be a problem with the swap, but figured it was better to check with those who know a great bit more than I do.

Go witha 240sx wheel! You can find em cheap. I have one as well and greatly prefer that to the GXE or SE wheel

I think the 92-94 wheels look cooler

Hey Cliff, is that 240 wheel smaller then our standard ones? A friend of mine keeps poking fun at how big they are.

I think it is very slightly smaller and slightly thicker. Not anything dramatically different. I could be wrong, it could just be my imagination.

I put a '92SE wheel in my '89 GXE back in the day. I had to swap the contacts and such, I even still have the bag of parts that were left over...

Anyway, its possible...
