EGR valve replacement
EGR valve replacement
I have looked at the charts for "troubleshooting egr" which helps very much. My main concern is how to get to where i am going. I am basically looking for a writeup on how to replace the valve. Has anyone replaced the egr valve? if so, i know it is going to be a b*tch but is there anything i should remove to make it a little bit easier, like the throttle body. and what would you recommend to clean carbon buildup?
thanks
thanks
Didn't you ask about this before?
Look here. Read everything. I even have pictures.

YOur going to have to remove anything that would help you get to the EGR Valve. For example the intake, possible throttle body, vacuum hoses, and miscenllaneous hoses. You want to use either throttle body cleaner or brake cleaner to remove carbon buildup.
Now it's my turn....
Okay, I read through the thread completely, went down and bought a set of visegrips (*great* suggestion), and I had the EGR valve out. Cleaned it up and every pipe/hose I could find, and now it's time to re-assemble.
Apparently, the EGR pipe requires PERFECT alignment for the nut to go on (this is the big nut). How the heck do I line it back up so I can get the nut to thread back on?
Rationalizing my work on this car as therapy....

Sounbwoy,
I owe you one. Next time I'm in Raleigh (grew up there), I'll buy you lunch. Loosening the EGR made the connection process so much easier. So, for the moment, no check engine light and car seems to run fine.

got around to it.
Well i replaced it...the pipe nut was a huge b*tch to get off the hose...literally had my body standing on the wrench an djumping up and down to get it off..finally gave...minus that it was pretty easy with just the intake assembly off...but the check engine light came on anyway so a waste of time money and sweat...at least i learned something i guess...good luck to the rest of you.

EGR Problem
Hey guys my 96 Max threw code P0400 which is the EGR Flow Malfunction. I just need a write up on how to correct this problem. I'm not sure if there is a complete write up around, but your help will be a huge help.
Thanks

New EGR threw code
I bought my 99 SE at about 73k miles, and soon the engine light came on. The shop I took it to read it as EGR trouble (burning too much gas) and offered to clean it rather than replace it. After it was cleaned, the light was off for about a month and came back on. I was moving out of state and had the car tuned up, tires replaced etc. and the EGR valve replaced. Sure enough, about 2 months after the move the light came back on - but I couldn't exactly take it back to the shop! This was around Feb 05. Until recently, the car has been running fine but with milage around 20mpg.
Now it is chugging all over town and I just found this forum. I've been SOOO broke, but I don't know what to do save take it to a dealership and explain my story - I've paid close attention to the symptoms & contexts. But maybe someone here can help. I've been reading about MAFs and O2 sensors...
What in the world is causing the problem??
