I have the same unit in my 95SE.

Assuming one doesn't have that, what does it take to convert to digital climate control? Is it simply the installation of the advertised unit, and if so, how difficult would it be to convert?

LOL, lots of bad info. in here. That style was from '95 to '97 (on all GLEs and loaded SEs). '98 and '99 have a different design and only '99 has the AMB (Ambiant/outside temp.) button. The button can easily be added to the '98 though.

IIRC, it's not that easy. You would have to run wires along with 3(?) different sensors placed at various places on the car/interior.

so what i'm getting is if i have a manual climate control it won't work to put an automatic one it? i guess it makes sense, i'm hoping that it would bolt right up but it sounds doubtful....

no, it will not work if you currently have a manual unit. there was a thread a few months ago where someone bought one to see if he could at least use the digital unit to control fan speed. he was unsuccessful, the wiring / harnesses don't match up. he ended up reselling it shortly after he bought it.
