Torque Converter Question

Well, its been a long day for me today.....
I took the car to Tranny Shop today, to get my fluid changed, and I had the shop check on my SES light....cause' it was on. And they gave me a call, and told me that my Torque Converter Sollenoid was burnt (fried), so I will have to replace that. So I asked them how much will they charge me to changed that and to change the fluid. They said somewhere around $850 bucks. I almost passed out lol. I thought that they were ****ing with me, but they werent. The shop, we trust them, my dad knows the menager, and he had a lot of cars fixed there. So iam 100% sure that they're not trying to ripp me off. But what do you guys think, is this too much, or should i buy this "switch" which runs around $250 bucks, and is it hard to change it? Also i asked them how long can i go with this being fried, they said that i can go a lot more, as longest the tranny doesnt HEAT UP a lot, that way i could fuc* up my 3rd and 4th gear.....NOW I NEED HELP FROM THE ORG< i just wanna know if the guy is ripping me off or not, iam pretty sure that he is not, and also is this hard to change?
i'll check couple more shops 2morrow, and i'll let u know how it goes....
and i forgat what code it was for the SES, but i'll also look that up 2morrow in autozone.....
thank you a lot guys
HUSO SELIMOVIC (dont ever by an AUTOMATIC, I had to argue with my dad today, and i actually won, i proved him that MT is a lot better than AT)

Sounds like alot to me. 100 For a fluid change and labor.

Then 750 for a solenoid and labor? Call up DAVEB(number in the FAQ's) and see how much he said the solenoid costs.

Nissans part # for the solenoid pack is 31940-85X05 List price is currently 385.25. I have one in stock at my dealership I can sell you one for 305.50 plus tax and shipping (usually about 8$ to anywhere in the country). This shop is probably getting 20-25% off list and then re-selling it to you at full list, plus fluid, plus gasket, plus labor, making about 850. It sucks but this is probably what you'll find just about anywhere. Good luck, and you could save yourself a lot by doing it yourself.

DAVEB is cheaper I believe, Pinnacle Nissan is cheaper than your price and DAVEB is usually cheaper than Pinnacle.

Being that it is such an expensive part, I could do a little better. Maybe in the 270 range. Still have to pay shipping but you're not going to get one much cheaper then that. My price as an employee is 258 and that is almost at cost.

from my past daveb purchases, it's the same price as pinnacle....there could be a possibility he can get the more expensive parts for a little cheaper...but as far as i know, they all use the 25% employee discount off list price

Huso, ask them if you can supply the parts and then see if they will just charge you for the labor. That is what I would do if I knew them. I wouldn't pay what they're quoting.

hey guys,
well i went to another tranny shop today,
and i had them check my car (i never told them about the previous tranny shop) and they think that it might be internal or exterlan wiring on tc, or it could be sollenoid, so its one of those 3 things.....
but they said that if its sollenoid, they'll do for w/e the part is plus 200 for (hands)
i called dave today ,and he has the sollenoid in stock for 290, so it should run me somewhere in 500 range or maybe lil more....to get this done, and thats only if the sollenoid is burnt....
i'll drop off my car 2morrow morning, so they can look into it a lil more, and figure out what it is....
THANKS A LOT GUYS
i'll update u 2morrow nite, and let u know what it is...
