Anyone know what size threads these are? Looks like mine are going to strip at the top, will likely have to use a vice grip to get them out. Don't know why they didn't put hex heads on these damn things. Also, is it necessary to disconnect any fuel lines before pulling an injector? I let the pressure off with the fuse and fuel cap, disconnected power.
And what's everyone use to torque those (6) 6mm allen head bolts holding the manifold collector in? A 6mm reverse socket? Not in the easiest accessible places.

Not sure what the screw size is. But you might get close to stripping those bastards, I almost did. I would hit them once, lightly with a hammer to free up the threads and then carefully turn them. You can put a screw driver in there and use the screw driver to measure the size.
Not sure what you mean about the allen head bolts. Are you refering to a VE or VG. On my VG '93 I just used a allen head socket and an extension on my torque wrentch. Bought the allen sockets from Advanced. Also on my VG there was more than 6. More like 9 on the lower intake and 11 on upper intake.

Oh and about your question with the fuel line. No. All you have to do is release fuel pressure like you did with the fuse. You don't have to mess with the fuel rail at all., Just unscrew the two screws, take off the cap and try to get the damn injector out. Had to use a hammer to pry that sucker out.

Thanks for all the help. Wow that job was a ***** getting all the little brittle hoses and their ridiculously engineered clamps in crampt spaces disconnected. I swear I must of spent 30 minutes on just one clamp a time or two trying to get the damn things removed. Few of the hoses broke and had to get new hose.
I ended up having to use a vice-grip to remove the 2 injector screws. I got new ones and lock washers at the hardware store. For anybody interested they are size M5. And I got a 6mm allen socket at Sears. You know, I wonder if they make an injector removal tool? Had to use the vice grips again for those. Sounds like you get double the fun with the VG and those gaskets.
Well, wish I could say it feels good to have the job done on my VE, but when I test drove it everything felt fine at first, but then the car's RPM started bouncing around and then it stalled out a couple times. Had to let the car sit and then start it up again about 30 min later. Had to really floor it to get it to start. Also noticed the fans have been coming on excessively. Maybe some air got in the coolant system and it just needs to have the air bubbled out? Sure hope it's that easy.

i did strip one of mine, ended up taking a hacksaw to the head of one to turn it into a standard, then used a flathead driver to unscrew it. it took about 2 minutes. good you got it out though.
I had to replace a lot of vaccum hose as well. Not because of anything I did but just because they were so cracked on the ends.
It just comes with an old car. Anytime you work on them because everything is so old you're going to end up replacing other parts.
On my '98 I can pull on vacuum hoses with reckless abondon and not worry (slight exaggeration but you get the idea).
