factory alarm going off on its own

Recently I noticed that the factory alarm has been going off on its own. I thought it might be the prestige alarm that was installed a couple months ago, but I removed the prestige brain and the problem is still there. The horns sound and the headlights flash when the factory alarm goes off, and I'll have to hit my unlock button on my factory remote to turn it off.

Anyone know what might be causing this?

MY FIRST THOUGHT IS YOU PROBABLY HAVE A LOOSE CONNECTION WITHIN THE ALARM SYSTEM. WAS IT DONE BY OUTSIDE PARTY OR DID YOU DO IT? TAKE IT BACK TO THE PERSON THAT WORKED ON IT AN HAVE THEM CHECK ALL CONNECTIONS AND DO A TEST WITH YOUR REMOTE TO MAKE SURE IT EVEN SETS WHEN YOU HIT THE BUTTON. BEST I CAN DO FOR YOU, AND YOU CAN ALWAYS HAVE THE DEALER LOOK AT IT.

Well I installed the prestige alarm, but I removed the brain so it is not connected right now. The factory alarm came with the car.

I noticed that there is a fuse labelled "antitheft" in the fuse panel thats in the driver's side of the engine bay. Does anyone know what this controls and if it will disable the factory alarm?

Open your trunk. get access to your lock switch assembly. Unplug it. See if this works. There was a TSB on this for the SE's from 95-99 with the spoiler. Water leaks down onto the switch and shorts it causing the alarm to go off.

If this were the case, would the trunk open on its own then?

No. Just unplug the electrical connector. This connects to your lock assembly for the alarm only. Your trunk will still open with the key and automatically. The lock assembly I am talking about is on the trunk lid on the inside.
