Never heard of bypassing the coolant flow thru it. To prevent the coolant from heating the air I assume?

yea its a cheap mod, its from the factory to prevent freezing up during hard winters... I live in FL and never need it. so to bypass a 190 degree fluid through my TB i bought a little metal hose joint. Just cant find\locate both of the hoses.

Found it!!! Thanks xlcrew, It was a BIZZO to get to but ultimatly snagged it. Used a 1\4 hose joint (metal) from home depot for like $2 and some 60cent screw clamps. Thanks for the help!!

Before you do this warm your engine up and pull your intake off. Feel the inside part of the TB. My guess is that it doesn't get much warmer than IAT anyways. Maybe I'm wrong.

I live in fl and the coldest it gets here during winter may be in the high 20's at sunrise. other than that most of winter is in the 40's. I usually let my car warm up those days anyway (which are few days of the year). Engine coolant sits around 190 degrees if im not mistaken.

????
I do not understand how this kept his camaro stuck at wot? I had a96 Pontiac Grand Prix and it had the same feature. Last I checked Coolant will not freeze, even here in Chicago.

Well the coolant isnt running through the TB thats the whole point of the TB bypass. So the coolant really has nothing to do with it. I think my buddies TB started to freeze up because I know as air moves fast it gets colder. I dont know why. And I know when that air is high in humidity as the temperature of the air goes down the water becomes ice crystals which I guess started to collect around the TB.

The coolant flows through the IACV valve. It is primarily used to heat the cold idle wax pellet type thermo valve. This valve allows more air to bypass the TB at first start up then as the coolant warms up the wax expands and closes the valve. If you live in a cold state you may not want to do this.

fyi, I am mostly a Mustang guy, this is an old trick we used in the late 80's early 90's to keep the hot coolant from heating the TB, does a teenie tiny bit, but most used to advise against it, when the car is warm it keeps hot coolant from heating the metal of the TB...if anything its maybe .5-.75HP ...not worth the time IMO....

I think your partly correct. Air temp does drop when it moves through an area of low pressure but this senario usually only happens in carbureted engines. The main part of the carburetor is called the venturi which would usually be the point where carb. Ice would form. It can happen in almost (Low RPM's) any time up to and sometimes above 70F with higher humidity. I never heard of TB icing before, but maybe somewhere in hard winters it may cause some problems without the coolant.
