Lack of low end power question
Lack of low end power question
OK this is what's been happening:
I blew a MAF a month ago, replaced it with the newest part. My car is a 2002, which had the 02 MAF previously, now its got what I'm assuming is equivilent to the 03 MAF. When I first installed it, the car threw a code that was along the lines of "high temperature output" originating from the temp sensor in the new MAF. This code as since gone away. Currently, I have code 0447, EVAP canister control circuit open, but that has been on for a year now (never bothered to fix...)
The problem I'm running into is when the car gets fully warmed up, say after 10-15 minutes of driving, I experience a huge lack of power in lower RPM's. For instance, if I'm at a stop and floor it, the car bogs down horribly until it gets up past 3500 RPM or so, where it seems to accelerate more normally. Also worthy of noting is when this lack of power is not present, engine sounds are normal, however when the lack of power is going on and I lay into the gas, the engine is signficantly louder... No idea how this increased noise is related to lack of power, but there is most certainly a relationship.
Also, when the power loss is occurring and say I'm going ~50, give the car more gas, it experiences a minor "bucking." This goes away when it downshifts, or at least it is not noticable.
My guesses are:
-ECU needs to be reflashed due to the new MAF outputting different signals that may be confusing the ECU (air/fuel mixture may be off?) as engine temperature increases.
I'm pretty sure its not the MAF going bad again, because this problem started the day I installed the new MAF. Also, no MAF codes have been thrown...
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I prefer not to go to a dealer for them to charge big $$ for what is probably a minor problem.
Thanks

I could be wrong, but wouldn't an ECU reset help here? I would also make sure all your connections are correct, tight, and not leaking. Specifically, you don't want any unmetered air getting around the MAF into the engine. It would lean the motor out and could be a source of trouble for you.

Only thing I've really noticed is the car will not kick down into first gear unless I'm at 30mph or slower. It used to kick into first at around 40mph with the stock air box and filter.

bigdo26... Check PM... and the IAT sensor.
