LED upgrade for climate control and stock headunit

Does anyone have a link for a HOW-TO on this? I've tried searching for it, but am not having any luck finding it. Thanks.

I saw the thread for that one. Great job btw, however, I'm looking help on the Auto Climate Control. That one uses those weird twist in bulbs. I'm trying to recall, I believe Metal MAx said something about just using the stock bulb holder to hold the led and twist it in.. something like that. Pics would be great.

mine pictured above is the auto climate control....I drilled small holes the size of the LEDs into the backside of the clear grid and stuck an LED in each hole (glued)...the 3-4 stock bulbs are gone, and the LED series is wired directly to the lighting power wire....

Hmmm really now? I didn't see that plastic peice inside the assembly, the only thing remotely looking like that is the plastic difuser(sp?) that illuminates the hazard light. I'll take a look again tommorow just to be sure.

I assure you, it's there

IIRC, you have to pull off the circuit board of the climate control. When you take the climate control apart, the clear grid piece is sandwiched between the board and the front buttons. It's held in by 3-4 little clips on the sides - careful when pulling it out, they are pretty fragile, as is the entire grid piece (i broke mine in half and had to glue it back together)

Now that you mention the position I'll def check again. What size Leds did you use? Also did you use any resistors, which ones 510, etc??? Thanks

IIRC I used 3mm 50mcd red clear LEDs.

I did two "chains", one with a 1ohm resistor and one with a larger resistor (less LEDs in that chain). I'm not really a pro at LED stuff, I just winged it and it worked after some trial-and-error.

I got the LEDs at www.eleds.com, which are very high quality...none of them has failed or burned out after a couple years having them in the dash, switches, etc....

Sorry can't remember the specific part numbers or power of the LEDs...

I've been to radio shack a few days ago to replace my damn bulbs, as all mine are blown. They have a vast selection of L.E.D.'s. I never got any cause I didnt know what watts, amps, or what resistors to get.

Irish, nice work on yours. I like the red.

Personally, I want to do the superwhite look even brighter than stock, but just wish there was a better how-to. The lights above the shifter area are my main concern.
