Odometer stopped counting?

Not to sure how to take care of this problem? My odometer and trip odometer stopped moving? I have pushed pulled giggled that black **** and I cant get anything to movie?

I did install a bezel a couple years ago so I know how to get @ the odometer, assuming I can fix the problem… how can I get the exact mileage from the ecu?? I don’t want to this car to have a “mileage tampering” asterisk next to it if I try and sell it down the line. And I can’t figure out my gas mileage anymore or know exactly when to get an oil change?

A friend of mine mentioned to me that there are a couple things on a car that the manufactured must repair for the life of the car… he claims odometers are one of them… any truth to this?

Thanks for your help

Is it just the odometer not working, and everything else is fine in the cluster? I would check the connections behind the cluster to see if anything came loose. For the odometer not moving, I would also check the speed sensor as well. Check all fuses in car, too.

this is a common problem with 95-96's I replaced my 96's odo with one from a 97 with about the same mileage. 95-97 are analog 98-99 -> digital. All works fine except for cruise control. don't know why.

If the cruise control doesnt work either than you should look at the vehicle speed sensor.

The bloody ODOs get stuck on 9's, this has been a problem since Mr Benz called his first car after his daughter, or was it his friend's daughter? I forget. Mine has the same stupid problem but the number of Max's in the junkyard here can be counted on . . . well not counted at all, actually. Unfortunately for me.

There are no cables. They are all electric.

happened right after i changed the cluster. there is no point in checking the speed sensor. maybe the cruise on 97's are incompatable with the ones on 95-96.

BTW i changed the whole gauge cluster not just the odo part.

Maybe it isn't pluged in all the way or came unpluged when you put it back together.

same problem here for the last 2 years. it would only work when the car was cold. tried re-soldering the entire cluster that didnt help .. today I finally broke down and ordered a new gauge 225.00 including the milage set.
i told the guy at the dealer ship to add around 6k to the mileage when ordering he refused saying the could only go by what the thing said when he ordered it.
I bought the car new and will keep it till it dies so no worries about fake milage or anything like that. new odo is gonna say 35k when it should read about 42, kinda suck s having a genuine low mileage max and the odometer never lived to see 36k lol. .

I've seen this happen to quite a few 95-96's, Happened to mine also, everything else worked fine, the odo, trip quit working. Check the FS forums and pick up a used cluster to put in there. Nissan charges about $50 to put the correct milege in. I had to bring both clusters in before they would do it, but it was also turning the cluster I bought forward not back

Well I have looked around and am able to get a 95-97 cluster @ the same mileage for a decent price, but I question getting the same cluster from a used car for replacement, I am thinking of getting the digital 97-99 so I won’t have the same problem. But what’s the cruse control issue? Does the cruse control light just not turn on or does the cruse not function entirely?

97s are still analog. A digital one would require a ton of wiring to make it work I would think, definetly not plug n play
