Guys,

Does anyone know from where can i buy the washable In-cabin filter for 2003 maxima. The car originally came with that filter and they could be washed.
I dont want to buy this one.

this is the one i want to buy.

any ideas from where i can get it?

Not sure where you can pick up the original filter, but I tried washing mine to keep from having to buy a non-washable replacement and it didnt work out as planned. I was pretty gentle when washing it, but the filter started to fray and did not work nearly as well after I reinstalled it. I eventually purchased a replacement non-washable filter from Dave B. Good luck with your find. If you still have your original, try to remove as much of the debris as possible before getting it wet. Compressed air would probably work well.

 

i've had good luck w/ Wix cabin filters. I usually buy them at O'Reilly's - not sure if you have that chain in LA though.

Any idea how much do they cost and how do they compare with carbon activiated filter from courtesyparts.com

 

I have a carbon activated filter. When I had my old filter it was not carbon activated and it always smelled musty when turning on the A/C. This new one is great.

 

i need a new one, bought the car off the guy in 2006 and i dont think its ever been changed, i TRIED to wash it, it helped a little, but not much

 

i try washing mines and still smells bad , now i need to buy a new one.

 

I tryed washing the original but it ws a pain and didn't come as clean as i wanted it to. I just ended up buying the other 2 piece carbon-filter one.

I found this at courtesyparts.com but i think its a little short in length than what we need in our car.
whats the deal here. how come 6th generation maxima doesnt need a carbon activated filter. is there a problem with our generation that it smells and thats y we need carbon activated filter to get rid of that smell. is there something FISHY.

 

I'm not sure how they compare to be honest. Wix is the official air filter for NASCAR - that may just be a sponsorship thing, but I do think they are used on every stock car. Whatever that's worth. I just thought it was interesting from a brand that had little recognition compared to Fram.

 

i used 3m filtrete filter for a house furnace, and cut it to size. this worked just as well as the oem harmonica filter. you can get about 4-5 filters out of a house sized filter. i think it was $12 at home depot. i dont' have the dimentions, i just traced the original filter, and trimmed slightly in the spots that were rubbing during the re-installation. unless you are using the charcoal filter, i think this is the most efficient way to go. i will be re-installing a new filter this weekend, and will take measurements for everyone to see.
if you plan on doing this, buy a filter that has aluminium netting holding the folds together. if you dont, as soon as you cut the filter, it will unfold.

 

How about compressed air? I clean my vacuum cleaner filter out all the time with air - you'd be amazed at how well it works.

Plus, air's cheap once you buy the compressor.....

You mentioned the 2003. I have a 2001-- I was able to wash it. I guess there was a difference b/t the two? $50 for a filter is crazy.

Take out as much leaves and dirt as you can.. hit it with the hose ( not full blast) then I soaked it overnight. Let it dry.

Before I put it back in-- I fired up the fan full blast without the filter in. Tons of leafs came out and buried the front seat. Pretty funny actually.

I tried to clean the filter once like 2 months back. the previous owner never changed the filter. it was quite dirty, i cleaned it up. it worked for a couple of weeks but now it smells. so now i have to change it.

anyways, previously i had a very hard time putting back the glove box. i kept on trying to put it back in place and it took me like half an hour to finally get it in place.

any tips to easily put it back.

I know Bosch makes in-cabin filters now. They might make one that fits our cars. I dunno, the Part Finder isn't working right now.
