about the common sunroof prob with 95-97 4th gens. what about 98-99?

i just went and picked up an i30 today well this is my second one.. i got a fully loaded BBS rims and all 96 i30 5speed LSD (96 cause of the ability for ecu upgrade with revlimiter raised)...

anyhow it has the common sunroof problem that haunts the early 4th gens..

it opens ... but wont close... you can push it close.. but it wont tilt up back into the location where it is flush with the roof..

i have noticed that my 98 iride doesnt exhibit these sunroof probs.. most of the cars that show the sunroof probs seem to be 95,96,97
and upon compaing sunroofs... i noticed that the 98's sunroof is diff from the 96

now i know the rebuild kit is a good way to go... but will it break down again or is the rebuild kit comprised of better parts...?
i found entire sunroof assemblies for 100$ from 98-99 maxes around me...
also this will allow me to take out the old roof put in new.. and be done.. opposed to tinkering and getting the broken one to work..

i really cant afford downtime on my summer work schedual.

now my quesiton is ... do the cars have the same mounting points between teh 96 and the 99? or are they all diff.?

i feel 100$ to jsut change the entire assembly is better than replacing a part that can go defective again.

please let me know what you guys think.... please dont start flaming.. ive read the stickies... and searched.. (donating member).. also if u have like 20 post please dont flame.... but if ur Jeff or soemone with a million post... welll try to be nice...

sounds like maybe one of the connections in the switch is burnt. I dont know if it can be fixed. However on one of my other cars I had the same syptoms. The fix was real simple, pull the switch, open it, take the metal connections and an eraser and clean them, put the switch back together. Like I said I don't know if it can be done with yours, mine was on a totally different car, however I would think so.
