Those with D2's Do you have three collars on your front struts or two?

Was just about to change my inner outer tie rods and all that good stuff, when I said let me add some preload to my D2's cause I'm boncy like crazy and I though we have 3 collars, like the Ksports do.

Maybe I'm just crazy

 

It is just 2 for the spring but there also 1 for the height adjustment to lock it in. So I guess 3 if you are including that. Im actually in the process of adjusting my rear preload right now to reduce some understeer. My car just wants to go straight and not turn.

 

So were suppost to have 3?

I have only two on mine. I was going to adjust pre-load but if I only have two collars then I'm only adjusting the height? or only adjusting the pre-load. . . ?

Do you have the 2 collars right under the spring? The 2 collars under the spring is what you need to adjust preload. I am sure you can do it with just 1 collar on the spring but it has the possibility of loosening. With both collars it cant loosen.

The bottom collar for the height is there to prevent the strut from turning and adjusting your ride height.

As for your preload I would recommend just putting the front where the top of the spring meets the camber plate and the bottom of the spring meets the collar. Dont really tighten it much. And for the rear do it the same way except make them alot tighter. Maybe an inch tighter. It will raise your car up though. It will reduce understeer. I just got a huge difference out of my car with adjusting the rear it amazing.

 

Thats what I thought, but the 2nd collor (under the top collar touching the spring) can spin and move but wont adjust height. So if the 2nd collar can go up and down with out adjusting the height but the top adjusts the pre-load on the spring. How is the height adjusted?

This is weird it feels like there is a missing element. I adjusuted the height on my car before but I believe what i did was just move the collars (both) down pretty far so it lower the car as it moved the spring far from the top.

 

JICs are basically setup the same way. The two collars that are in contact with the spring adjust height.

On the JICs to adjust the dampening, there is a **** at the bottom of the front shocks, a few clicks to the right stiffens, a few to the left loosens. Rears adjustment is on the very top. Not sure how the D2s are, but I'm guessing they are similar.

They had been like that the whole time they were on my car

The car never fluctuated in ride height though, as you know how **** I can be about minor details....I checked finger gaps all the time.

 

Thats it. I was trying to add more pre-load but was getting confused on the process. thanks to MxRiderR52 I understand now, and shall be tweaking this setup to perfection.

I have my car (still) in mid air changing the tie-rods, swaybar... etc, and figured I'd fix my bouncy and un-even ride all at once, then get a nice alignment and enjoy a smooth conering machine

 

Going to sleep with her on jackstands is always motivation.

 

I have to, I dont have a decent enough lamp, I'm tired, and I spent all day out in that heat, chaning the oil, breaking bolts, but I got distracted and was stripping a spare DE I have in the garage . . . which was a lot of fun.

Going to start very early get these tie-rods and control arms on and get her aligned!

I got stumped trying to get that silver piece out of the control arm.

No, its still in there. . .

I was going to try and leave the control arm bolted up to the car except for that silver piece and let the car be the force I hopefully would need to pull it out, but I didnt try too hard and thought it might not be too hard to get it off when its off the car.
