How to: AMB button.

Don't know if someone already did this, anyways, just found out that even if your auto climate control isn't equiped with the ''AMB'' button (on the right side of the auto climate control display when equiped) you can make yourself one so you can know how hot or cold it is inside the car

When I was doing the LED conversion of my auto climate control, I noticed on the circuit board an unused button marked ''AMB'' just above of the button to increase the fan speed.

I had some time to kill this afternoon, so I did this ''how to'' with pics and comments.

Enjoy all!

AMB button? I don't have that and I have auto climate control. But I do have a outside temperature display in the gauge cluster, and it shows up as I press the trip button on my steering wheel.

Same thing with me. I wonder if any I35s have the AMB button?

00-01 - AMB button on auto climate with display on the control unit
02-03 - no AMB button since the temp is diplayed on the gauge cluster

The temp diplayed on the gauge cluster for the 02-03 is the outside one, not the temp inside the car. Seems that they just remove the button from the climate control but not on the circuit board on the climate control.....

What if you replace it with just an 01 auto climate control? Is it just plug and play for 02-03?

the AMB (Ambient) button also displays the outside temp (not inside)

Uh yeah, ambient = outside temp. inside temp is whatever you set the climate control to (at least in theory)

Lowest i've seen it get is -14 degrees farenheit. Pretty dang cold!

Yeah, I ran into this dilemma when I found out that the '02-'03's had the temp. display on the cluster eliminating the feature on the auto climate control. I wanted something to display the outside temp at all times, instead of just pressing the ambient button on the A/C unit to dislplay for 3 seconds. (This is why I invested in a rear view mirror that has the temp and compass.) I always wondered if there is a way to have the ambient display button to "lock" and keep the display lit until the button is pressed again to turn off the display? Hmmmm.....
