I stopped being stupid and found a black/black 6 speed>>

Well, I had a little cute run there when I was actually considering Mazda Mazda3's. But then I stopped being stupid and realized if I spent a few thousand more (which isn't a problem for me) I could get a real car instead of a stylish economy car. To be fair, I really do like the exterior design of the Mazda3 sedans.

So, anyway, I have a 2003 black Maxima 6 speed in my sights with 27,000 miles. The bad news. It lists online at $19000. (Which isn't as bad as the dealership who wanted $14000 for a 4th gen.) Could be considered above book by quite a bit (although I suspect many dealers consider KBB worthless). I think I would be happy paying $18000 for it, considering I wouldn't be looking to flip it after a year or so, so I can build some equity. One has to consider that black/black 6 speed Maximas aren't exactly common as well. And it's fairly close, also important considering I live in the middle of nowhere (read: Iowa). This is also probably a safer bet than that similar Maxima with the "lightly tapped front bumper" and no airbags that I posted about earlier. Thoughts?

Also am I the only one that is unable to stop staring at this smilie below without becoming a drooling hypnotized mess?

Thanks everyone!

So do I, but that's not enough for me.

If you're looking at a car as an investment, you're already in a losing position. I have some Enron shares you'd be interested in, PM me.

You're right on both accounts.

Yes.

Sounds like $18k would be a more than fair offer, I would pick that up without hesitation were I in your shoes.

Personally, I think $18K would be rather high even decked out with all options (now if nicely modded, that's another story). That being said, you'll probably never run across another one in the near future and it is your money. Take all of those things into consideration when purchasing.

If you are able to, see (ask them nicely) what their bottom dollar is and then subtract a grand and start negotiating from there. Never tell them the most you'll pay for the car up front unless you're sure they won't go any lower. You never know how low someone is willing to go until you try. They may have taken $14K for the car if they were looking to trade up and found out how bad the dealership rapes you...

Congratulations on finding one and good luck on your purchase. I hope you get it for a fair price and in good condition. Keep us updated!
