1997 SE ---- STEERING and SEATS ???

Ok guys... Im about to buy my 4th maxima!!!! OHH YEA! 1997 SE 5sp, mint mint!!! Marroon on Black.

Here are my wonders:

1) This baddboy has an odd feel to the steering... It feels like an american boatwagon... Ya know, like wayy too easy to turn the wheel. I dont like this, and no other max's Ive had felt this way, thid IS the only one of this body style Ive driven, so Im curious if this is just a characteristic of them or what...? If it is or not, Can I Do Anything About It??? to stiffen it up at the wheel...?

2) The seats are cloth........... BLAHHHHH.... Nice cloth, but NOT leather
Can any other Generation seats fit in here?? With power options??

Any info is great guys! Thanks a ton~~~

You may have a shot steering rack, or something loose in the linkage. My 97SE started showing symptoms of a bad rack at under 100k.

I dunno what other gens will fit, but leather/heated/power seats came in my 97SE, so used seats from a 97 are at least one option.

I wouldn't think the rack would go bad under 100k miles. I would look at the brand of tires, pressure in them. If they are OK then I would suggest the shocks are worn.

I bought a '96 SE last year with new Bridgestone Blizzaks (snow tires). The thing was a boat. I bought some 16" SE wheels and put some Toyo Proxes 225/50/16 tires on it and it totally transformed the car.

good to know

Right on Flame! I had a feeling that was gonna be the answer. It actually is running on new Toyo Proxys with 18" chromes... I am a bit tossed by this handling though. And it doesnt feel like anything is wrong. Just crazy loose. I hate that feeling of drive! If theres nothing I can do for it... Im gonna go in a different direction, I DROVE A 2000 SE!!!!!!! Man! What a f'n car! Thanks guys~

lol never thought about that.. I drive a 97 GLE occasionally and it does have that "loose" feeling.. definetly not tight by any means.. the 5th gen is definetly firmer.
