why do they instruct to reprogram the ecm when mass airflow replaced
hello , had to replace the mass airflow assembly today and it did help, why do they instruct with the following " the unit requires special ecm reprogramming of the vehicle, refer to TSB for the special ECM id code that must be entered in the ASIST ECM Data screen to download the correct data. is this bull........ or should this be really done. just replaced mine and the car is driving fine with no reprograming?
Actually that advice is, well, not true. The new MAF sensor will in fact work without reprogramming the ECU, but the update is designed to work with the different operating characteristics of the new MAF.
The fact is the ECU will not reprogram itself. You may have confused the terms reset and reprogram. Taking off the negative cable for 5 minutes will reset it. Only erasing and entering new data will reprogram it. That is why you must have the Consult 2.
You should consider letting your dealer put in the latest update for your ECM. Now that you have installed the new MAF yourself, it shouldn't be that much $100<. You could be pleasantly surprised.

Mass Air Flow
Just hoping you guys can help me out here with replacing my MAF sensor.
My Maxima is 2000 GLE and it was bought in Toronto, Ontario. I have been looking online and found that prices for MAFs range anywhere from $600 at my dealer to $103 here: http://www.drivewire.com/nissanparts...massmeter.html
Just wondering, is the first part listed above correct for my car? I don't understand how there could be such a HUGE difference in price. As well, how can I check the manufacture date as the part in the link above says "Fits: 04/1999 - 06/2001 Nissan Maxima 3.0 GLE"
Thank you so so much for any help available!
