Inaccurate spedo reading

When the car is in park its at around 17 mph, and when I start going around 10 mph, its still there somewhere, then when I go around 30 or 40 its at around 47 I think. This is a 97 gxe model, been like this since bought, how will I be able to fix it? thanks guys

Take the dash apart and make sure all the plugs are fully into the gauge cluster. You might be able to get a CEL for a speed thingy also.

Can a beginner like me mess anything up in the process of taking it out? Also are there are just screws holding it, and where are they located? Thanks once again!

No, you can't screw it up. Just take your time. Some of the pieces might be hard to remove and watch out for small metal clips. With the correct screw drivers it is easy...
