i got owned by a caliper....(see inside for details)

i got owned by a caliper....(see inside for details)

So I replaced my front brakes and rotors about 2-3 weeks ago. Everything was good up front. I knew that my rear pass. side caliper was getting bad. it was kinda frozen....well now its totally frozen. the whole time driving I get a sqweeeling sound. horrible sound. so several months ago when Alex_V was parting out his car i took his caliper from his 1990 se. So last night as i was putting that caliper on my car i got owned!

The 1990 caliper is smaller than my 91s caliper. The pads are a huge difference in size. And the the smaller caliper wouldnt even bolt to my hub assembly.

I had no idea this would happen so my car is sitting in a barn on jack stands as it was around 10pm when we got to this predicament. SO tonight ill have to put the new pads, rotors and new caliper on the rear pass and finish the drivers side rear real quick and bleed the brakes.

so if anyone wanted to know the rear 1990 calipers are not the same as the rear 1991 calipers. does anyone know if the fronts are smaller as well or not?

Front brakes caliper/rotors/pads are all the same from 89-99..

Not sure what year/type they change around on the rear.Maybe matt/brian can help there...

Rear brake design changed after 9/90 or something like that, so yeah they are different.

yes my car was made 10/90 and it has the larger brakes. i found that out the hard way.

Here what I have now and works.

91-94 Calipers.
91-94 brackets.
89-90 Rotors.

I thought your pic showed the rotor being too small?
or did you swap the strut bracket too?

i didnt think the 89-90 brackets even bolted to teh hub assembly.

yeah its great now. stops way better no screaching sound from a frozen caliper and warped rotor. money i didnt want to put into the damn car though.

That was with the older brackets.

ok, so basically you used evrything from the newer style but the rotor, I wonder if the newer style would have worked too.

The newer rotor was too big. I believe it had something to do with the strut/ hub section being a little different.

I donno whats it's called, but the part that the strut caliper bracket bolts to.

hmm the rotor diameters are the same, but the height is marginally different.

Thats what i thought. Possibly they gave me the wrong ones???
