Ground Control Noise?

My ground controls make a noise like its hitting something. When I turn at slow speeds like under 20mph they will make a *dung* type noise or they will sometimes make some kind of grinding noise too. Is there any way to get rid of the noise? I am riding on oems struts right now and will be switching to illuminas so if you guys know of any way to get rid of the noise it will be awesome. Also if I get the illumina struts will they come with upgraded bump stops and boots or are those seperate?

I sounds like your strut bearings are ruined. This lets the suspension bind when you turn the wheel and then it pops because of the tension on the spring. Next time you dissasemble them, RTV the new bearings to the upper mount. This way they wont move around and get crushed.

Illuminas dont come with boots, but new rear bushings are included.

my driver side strut bearing was completely destroyed. i havnt even checked the other side but im guessing that ones gone too. 97MaximaSE97, what did your GC kit come with? reason im asking is cuz i got mine used and the alignment shop i took it to said i was missing something that dealt with the strut bearing. mine came with a top hat, spring and perch. spacer maybe?

JSutter what is RTV? ... so i dont mess up the new set i need to get.

I bought my GC's from a friend. It was just the sleves and springs. Firestone said it sounded like the springs aren't sitting in the hat right. Do new struts such as illuminas come with bearings? Also which kind of upgraded bump stops can I get for the Illuminas. With how low I am I have around 2 inches from the bump stops in the rear.

RTV is a gasket maker/sealer. You can get it at any auto parts store. Basicly you are gluing the plastic bearing up to the upper mount so it doeest fall down when the supension droops.

I bought mine used, but compleat. The kit includes 4 locking collars, 4 sleeves, 4 springs, and 4 upper spring mounts. Look here for a good install

As for bump stops, the stockers are fine when trimmed properly.

Yeah mine came with everything too. Do you currently have your GC's on your car? Is there any noise from them at all? So in order to stop the poping noise I have to replace my RTV's and glue them to the upper mount. What does the RTV do exactly?

Yea they are on the car. I do have a slight noise, but i have no idea where its comming from. The RTV is a silicone-rubber used to make seals in all sorts of things. Most of the time is used as a gasket on valve covers or oil pans. http://store.summitracing.com/egnsea...1&autoview=sku

Any how it will keep your strut bearings from geting crushed. You use it to glue the bearing to the upper mount. Id check the bearings first, just to be sure. You can jack the car up and look at them or turn the wheel back and forth while someone looks at the spring to see if its binding up. If the bearing is damaged, replace it.
