Shocks and the big decision

So, I have spent way too much time researching this. And after reading what has seemed to be an endless number of threads I have come to the conclusion that I have no need to drop my car. My rear shocks are leaking bad, and its starting to show when at High speeds I hit a bump or dip in the road and the car just bounces like no tomorrow.

I still have not made a decision between the OEM KYB or Konico, any extra insight from the loads I have read in the uncountable amount of threads is appreciated.

My biggest question is the following... Only my rear are blown (seems to be a common issue). I will be replacing AT LEAST my rears, but should I replace all four shocks. Would there be a performance issue with aftermarket rears and oem fronts?

Thanks for the info....

i don't think you will have performace issues by replacing just the rears. you will like the ride more, if all four are replaced. i think a set of 4 tokico's is about $50 more than just the rears by themselves. might as well get them all. most aftermaket oem replacement shocks are a little stiffer than the actual oem. and having used shocks in the front will be even more noticable with new ones in the rear. you will thank yourself later if all four are done at the same time.

save the hastle and do all at once. Go aftermarket. You will see a great improvement in handling. WTF is konico? Did you mean tokiko? if so go with illuminas for performance and adjustability or HP's for stock feel and less to deal with.

Replace all four. I've said it once and I am gonna say it again. HP don't feel anything like stock. If you want the stock feel buy stock shocks from nissan. All OEM means is original equipment manufactuer. Tokico is the OEM for the maxima, but HP are not the OE shock. Its a aftermarket replacement.

Finally the answer tHat i was looking for! Like rmd0311, I have been reading threads and googling like crazy for the past several days, looking for information about the Tokico Blues. I have read too many threads saying that the Blues are just like stock, but ppl with illuminas dialing back their setting so it will feel like "Blues". If the Blues are like stock, whats the point of getting aftermarket struts? so I thought.

So my next question is how do they feel different from stocks?

I understand your the way you feel. When I was looking to replace my shocks all I kept reading was HP were just like stock. I brought the anyway and I was like, what the hell are people talking about. Not even close to stock. The stock shocks make the max ride kinda harsh while the Hp dampen so much better and controls the ride much better. Why buy Illuminas if your not putting on aftermarket springs seems like a waste to me. HP are awesome and are all you need with stock shocks.
