Yes depending on how close the leak is to the motor.

I would think that a leak would cause turbulence which would slow the exhaust stream velocity. A leak before an O2 sensor could cause altered readings and screw with your a/f ration.

Yea if it was before the O2 sensor then it would read that there was more oxygen than there really is and would send more fuel into the engine making it choke more and run rich. After the O2 sensor it would have air coming in making the exhaust back up when it hits the air coming in and thus less exhaust exiting the tail inducing power loss.

You don't lose any open loop power since the ECU ignores the o2 sensors then anyway. You'll just lose power during light acceleration and your MPG while cruising will suffer dramatically.

It depends on how loose the exhaust flange is.

The ECu will not "ignore" the o2 sensors b/c that would be the same as not having any 02 sensors and my car didnt want to run when I forgot to put one back in when I was looking at my exhaust to make a lay out plan for putting my y-pipe I am getting in. O2 sensors control A/F ratios and make the car go. The ECU will not bi-pass them.

Wow, didn't know that an exhaust leak could have such drastic effects on performance.. but now that I think of it I guess it makes sense

Open loop = WOT, WOT = Wide open throttle, wide open throttle = 'flooring it'

There had to have been something else that was preventing your car from starting because I dont have one of the O2 sensors plugged in (Bank 1 sensor 2) and my car stills starts up and runs.... it runs a little rich though.

which reminds me... I have to get that fixed!!

thats a load of crap.. ill explain it so everybody can understand... when u first turn ur car on in the morining for example the ecu will ignores values from the o2 sensors just untill the car gets warmed up..... same thing if u floor it the values are neglected...

I had terrible pick-up (especially low RPM) until I fixed my exhaust problem. Got it fixed and the car feels brand new again! What a difference.

My flex coupler blew on the stock y pipe. My engine sounded like crap and there was a significant power/mileage loss.

The question has been answered already. There is a power loss during light acceleration. WOT performance above 3000 RPM is unchanged.
