Brighter Clearence Lights

I can only find a writeup on 95-96 Maximas. I wanna do it cause I'm getting HID's soon and I want them to be brighter. Are their any writeups on the 97-99 Maximas? For those who have done it how do the clearence lights handle the extra heat? I have the AE style clearence lights from CE.

It is the same method, just snip off the top nub of your bulbs and flip the bulb around.. Also the clearance light will eventually crack and leave some nice dust inside the casing.

This is probably a stupid question but would an 1156 bulb work in place of the 1157. The nubs look like the match the 1157 bulbs would that work? I don't do too much night driving 45 minutes a day. So all I have to do is snip the top nub no re-wiring?

Don't do it. It runs the lines and bulb at a higher wattage for an extended period thus causing a crack. It is only intended to run at that wattage for the duration that you are turning. If you want brigher clearence lights then buy brighter bulbs.

I have polarg hyper whites. They light up the sides of the road pretty well but when you look at them straight on they look dim. Also wouldn't buying a brigher bulb produce the same results with the housing cracking due to the increased heat? I probably won't do it now cause of all the negative reviews about it. If brighter bulbs are safer which kind of hyper white ones are good?

what cracks? the housing of the clearance lamps cracks?

i haven't heard about this much. you guys problay speaking from experience then. 1156 i THINK are single fillaments and 1157 are dual. the offsets are diffrent.

I have the silverstar amber ones and i dont even notice them on the sides.

I've had mine like this for a year now, even through a PA winter, and my housings have yet to crack or anything. They still look great, in fact.

I don't think a 1156 would work, for the reasons stated above, as well as I think the "full output" (the brighter filament) 1157 is brighter than a 1156.

To those who said about getting brighter bulbs, what brighter bulbs? They're offered in different colors, that's about it. They aren't even offered in higher wattage, and if they were, that would mean more heat and it would defeat the purpose of not doing this mod in the first place.

I've had this "mod" for 2 years now and don't see any cracking at all. Not to mention I work at night 5 days a week so I use my lights more often than the average person. When you people do this mod make sure the nub is completely shaved off and electrical tape is covering the removed nub. This will ensure that only one filament is lit up instead of both. That's probably where the cracking is coming from. I use silverstar ambers in mine.

Both mine cracked already but it is not noticable unless you get up close to see it. The only reason why I did mine was to match the headlights with the corner lights. It looks a lot better than the stock dim corners.

I thought the goal was to get both lit up for extreme brightness. lol

i personally dont have this mod done. but i did it just for kicks one day. just to see what everyone was saying. both my filaments lit up and i was like wow that bright. And i called it a day.
