New front axles and now a vibration

Hi all,

I have just had both front axles replaced (remanufactured ones), and now under acceleration, there is a noticeable vibration in the steering wheel and pedal, and can also be felt by passengers. They replaced the right shaft twice (the first time they thought it was a bad steady bearing on the shaft), and though better, the vibration is still there. Anybody have any experience in this area or can offer some advice? Is it because remanufactured shafts are not built to original tolerances (ie. cheap)?

They are going to look at it again, but I don't want them just swapping things in and out if I can avoid the wear and tear...

Things to check.

Wheel spacers(cheap ones will vibrate without a hub centric piece)
Bad wheel bearing
wheel weight may have fallen off
possibly just bad axles.... I've had that happen with a reman.

By "they" Are you referring to a shop/mechanic??

If so,then take it back to them immediately!

Make them fix it right..That is what you paid them to do,the first time..

For sure. I am taking it back. They suggested I drive it for a couple of days to see if the problem "goes away", but I'm curious to know what it could be... I can't imagine anything to do with new shafts having a break-in time.

Axles have no break in time...They should be smooth as silk...

I'd check the wheels for balance.
They may have accidentally knocked off a weight when they were working on it.

very common with remanucaftured axles. junkyards sell the axles off their wrecked cars as cores to the rebuilders, so it's possible you got a bent one.

take the car back and tell them it's still vibrating. and don't let them give you the "just drive it and see if it goes away" crap. they're hoping YOU will go away.

a hint.. one of the axles I swapped a long time ago did the same thing. I pulled it out, gave it a 1/2 turn and put it back in. vibrations went away. Explain it I can't. Worked it did.

Yea I had the same problem but instead of after replacing axles it was after replacing both control arms and ball joints...so I got an alignment and it helped a bit but then changed both bearings and its not as bad but there's still just a humming like sound that my g.fs max doesnt do but mine does...gonna put my stock wheels back on since they're like new and see if its the tires..

just what i would have advised....it's called putting the axles "in phase"....usually only truck drive shafts require but the same physics should apply here

I wonder if doing both axles altered the alignment or not....but yeah, bring it back for sure.

Oh..I just remembered something..When i swapped my tranny, the passenger side axle snap ring broke[],this caused a bad wobble/vibration...I took the joint apart, used the snap ring from the my other shaft...Fixed..

From what I can notice after changing them it has not done anything to the alignment..at least that I can notice..can anyone confirm that?

if you did the axle by just undoing the ball joint from the spindle, your alignment should be fine.

I've made a friend with my paint pen. Mark it all and just put it back right.
