Ok, i haven't posted on this forum since about December (sorry all funds now go to DJ stuff since my DJ career took off) but I just got my car stolen last night, in front of my house, with everyone home, at only 9 PM. So now I'm looking for a new Maxima. I had a 98 GLE. Now should I go with the 2000 body style or stick with the 4th gen.? What should I do?

Sorry about the car. Good luck sorting everything out, I hope insurance will take care of it all. As for a new ride, depends on how much $$$ you want to spend. Have fun shopping.

If you can wait until Augoust you will be able to get a crazy deal on a new 2001 max.

I would say go with the 4th Gen. In my opinion, they look better. Performance is not that much of a difference.

"2000 Yamaha R6 Team Yamaha Red/White "

I just bought the R1 about a week ago. How do you like the r6?

And i like both body styles the same pretty much, and why do you think i could catch a better deal in august for the 2001? because the release of the 2002? Money really isn't the issue. hopefully i'll get like 17,000 for the 98 or possibly even 18,000. they owe me at least 1,500 just for my dj equipment in there. (that takes care of my 1,000 dollar deductable, insurance was so high i raised my deductable to defer the cost)

The new Altima and new Max will drive the price down on 2001 max's. If history repeats it's self you will be able to get a 01 GXE for about 16 G's. Now thats a deal I would not be able to pass up.

In general, the last quarter of the year (From around Sept. on) gets you the best deals simply because dealerships need to make room for the next years' models. As for which generation, it's all up to your personal taste since $ isn't an issue. Which car would you prefer to be seen rolling around in?..

hey sorry about the car...

it always sucks when someone steals something of yours...

Here's my Maxima-buying story:

I got my '99SE 5sp back in August '99 for 23,500 with all the options except heated seats (not much use here in Austin TX anyway). I still have the sticker that says 28,400. There was a HUGE discount on the 4th gens because the 5th gen had just come out.

Dude I think you can get a really good on a '01 later this year. Go for it man upgrade to 5th gen.

Re: hey sorry about the car...

Sorry to hear.
Where do you live?
Let us know what happened to the car, what shape it's in.

If you're going to get another
well, personally, I prefer the 4th gen.
If you go with a 4th gen the "extra" money that you
would have spent on a new 01 or 02 can go towards
a bunch of mods...

Were the keys left in it? I know that my max came with that chip in the ignition key that wouldn't let the car run unless the chip was detected. I guess what I'm trying to say is if the keys weren't in the car and you had this option also, then somehow thieves are able to get past this and if so I want to be able to do something to prevent this from happening to me.

In this case now that they've found your car I don't think it would be wise to wish that its "all messed up." Cause now that they found the car, insurance will pay to have it fixed but you won't get a brand new car out of it. Thus the least amount of damage means the quicker you get your car back. This happened to my friends accord, they found it two days later with a busted up transmission, busted ignition, etc etc. Insurance paid to fix it but after that he told me the car never really felt the same. Could be physcological i dunno, but that might not have been the case if all they took were the lights, stereo equipment, rims, cds, without doing major damage to the actual car.

But then you could always use the insurance money they give you to fix the car as a downpayment for a new car, but you still sorta lose out.

Depends on what insurance you have. I worked for Geico, and if they don't feel that the car will be the same as it was before they stole it, they will pay you for the car, thus the car becomes salvage. It is a liabilty for them to fixed a really messed up car (lawsuits, etc.). What you might want to consider, if they pay out for the car, and the damage isn't really that bad on your max, insurance companies have what you call "salvage retained". This basically means that for about $500-1000 (depending on the company), you can keep your banged up car plus whatever the insurance paid out for it. Get your car fixed at a local shop and keep the salvage car and the funds.

ok so i got back from thew police station. let me tell you the fun i have had today! Ok i live in new jersey in hillside, the car was stolen and for anyone that knows the area i live 2 minutes away from route 22. it was found in newark, don't ask me how it it because i don't know! i went all the way down to newark police station just for them to tell me i have to come back tomarrow at 9 am. they said the paper work is not done on it yet. i asked them if they have any clue on the condition of the car and they said they don't know because the paperwork isn't done. now how hard is it to add a little blurb onto a conversation. for instance they called me to tell me they found the car, how hard is it to add "and it was stripped" or "just a joy ride" or "they smacked it up". 4 to 5 words at most. NO! all they know is that they found it this morning. I have to act like mister detective now.

The hillside cops told me that later in the day someone tried to steal another max 2 streets down from where i live. this only leads me to believe that someone wants it for parts. The cops found it this morning in newark. now how would a cop from newark know that this maxima from hillside was stolen? there must have been either extensive damage to the car or it was stripped. they are not going to just run plates if its just a regular car on the street.

So even though i have no clue what cxondition the car is actually in, i think its stripped, or badly damaged, so hopefully it will me totalled. i 'm thinking that the insurance will give me anywhere from 15k to 18k for it(it had approx. 36k miles on it) but who knows, all i know is that i'm ****ed that someone took somthing of MINE!!! those bastards

why dont you just go to the place where they found it and check it out, unless they moved it from that location already.

You can attach pictures to your post... Or upload them to one of those free web hosting services (ie.. geocities, tripod, etc.), and post a link.

PS... I live in Newark... where did you EXPECT the car to end up :-)

Hillside is only like 10 minutes away !!!

I'm sorry to hear about your car, I remember reading that the Maxima is one of the most stolen cars around NYC or NY area...
I don't understand the thieves, that's pretty messed up thing to do, they took some things off it and out of it but messed it up as well... I guess they took what they needed first then decided to mess around with it. The damage sounds weird, I wonder what they were doing?
Make sure to get it checked out completely not just exterior damage because it sounds like they did a good share of hard driving, who knows what that included.

Dude... that sucks... I fell for ya. But if the insurance company pays out for the car, I would tell you to keep and if u have a friend with a shop, get it fixed and have $$ left over from the pay out.

Whatever you decide, hope it works out for the best

I have to agree... unless there's something we don't see in the pics, it just looks like some house-keeping + body shop work.. I'm sure you would still have money left over from the insurance claim!!

Any indication as to whether or not other parts of the car have been abused (ie. engine/tranny??)
