just as the title says...who in here has a lowering spring, front only/stock rear setup? paticularly eibach springs...what are your initial impressions of the ride/handling/etc? how about the height of the vehicle? I know in stock form, the rear end of the maxima sits lower...so by lowering only the front, does it give a good balance?

further details would be greatly appreciated!

 

I've got Maxspeed front, stock rear, but I may do the rears at some point. Handling is much better than stock and the wheel gaps are pretty consistent front to back.

 

hey could you do me a favor? could you measure with a measuring tape...the height of both front and rear fenders? measure from the floor to the middle of the fender for both could ya? i'm interested in the #s...thanks!

Sure, here ya go - this is sitting in my garage so it should be level (with 1/2 tank of fuel):

Drivers side: front 26 1/2, rear 26 5/8

Passengers side: front 26 5/8, rear 26 7/8

I'm an automatic btw, which probably accounts for most of the driver/passenger side differences.

 

could you possibly measure your F/R too? haha, sorry to bug...but i wanna know the height with that setup...i know eibachs is a TAD lower than maxspeed...so i can get an idea how a stock rear + eibach front will be

 

wait, i dont get it? i thought autos weigh more and lean more towards the drivers side? how come your drivers side is higher than your passenger?

 

and i notice your rears seem kinda low? i always thought stock rears were in the 27 range

 

hmmm - no idea - but that's where it's at...nothing in the trunk either. I looked back at my notes and before the front drop and the rear was 27 ish.

 

I had H&R front only for a while. I liked the way it looked and handled over stock, but it looks and handles much better with the rear dropped too.

I did this in another car I used to own and I wouldnt do it. Buy springs that have a lower drop in the front than the rear but do all of them at the same time. Not only did my dealer give me crap for doing it, but they tried to void my warranty because I did it.

Now on the other hand depending on how smart you are I will argue for just the front being dropped. When you have a front wheel drive car it is necessary to have two things: stiffer springs (higher spring rate) in the front to improve traction and second: a slightly lower front end will also improve the handling characteristics of the vehicle.

Now if you take both of those pieces of advice you will find that it is best to buy springs that have the two characteristics listed above and do all four corners at the same time. (throw a rear sway bar in and the max will be an amazing handling machine)

ahh nice, that makes more sense...its slightly off by like 0.15 inch...but i understand cuz the transmission is heavier on that side

hey i noticed your rear drivers is higher than your rear passenger by like quarter of an inch...i remember my stock setup, the rear drivers was higher than the passenger...not exactly sure by how much...could have been quarter inch or more...anyone else experience this with stock springs?

 

i have h&r's only in the front, and oem springs in the rear, with hp blues on all four wheels. the front is "about" 1/4 inch lower than the back. i had the h&r's in all four corners, but the rear sagged like a ****, and it rode like ****, imo. i hated the constantly jagged ride. the rear beam suspension+lowering springs suck on maximas. it's much better with oem springs in the rear. the wheel gap is very even, only i know it's slightly lower in teh front.

 

hey chronos, could you possibly measure your heights on all 4 corners? well, just the rears is fine..i want to see if your passenger and drivers side rears are proportional to each other...

haha, the only explaination i can THINK of...is the muffler is located towards the passenger side...the passenger side sags a little more than the drivers side...therefore, driver side appears higher...

thoughts? opinions?

 

I when you put lowering springs on the Maxima, you got massive drops, like over 1.5". So if you put springs just in the front, i would REALLY slanted...

Bringing this back from the dead, I recently did a Maxspeed front drop only. Stock rears, stock struts/shocks all around. I will be changing the shocks later, possibly front only to support the drop, but it's not a need nor is is dire.

Rides really smooth over potholes and bumps. It's a bit bumpy I'll admit, but I rather the slightly boaty ride of stock than bracing for impact and picking my teeth up every time I hit a slight imperfection in the road.

 

I've got eibach's up front and stock rear. I'll measure it up for ya.

 

The fronts are at 26 3/4" and the rears are at 28". This is riding on 19" G35 coupe rims which are about an inch larger in the rear than stock.

anybody else ran on stock struts on aftermarket springs? if so, what kind...and how long did they last (if the shocks blew)?

 

i'm currently running on KYB GR2 (which i think is basically stock) and Vogland Springs.. i'm loving it.. but the drop is HUGE.. the description said approx 1.4" drop.. but it turned out to be 2.5+".. even though the drop was great.. i love the setting.. had it on for approx 2 months now.. didn't blow shocks yet *crossing my fingers..*

 

I went with the Tein H luxury springs and stock shocks/struts and the drop is straight for the 20's. It dropped evenly right on top of the tire.
