Hybrid Maxima (city mpg > hwy mpg)

My car is weird. I get better MPG (about mid 25s) when I'm stuck in traffic and driving local (1st thru 3rd gears, gentle accelerating, shift around 3k). When I do mostly highway I get low 24s (5th gear). What gives? Wind resistance? I have normal temp spark plugs, if that makes a difference.

I get about 27 and a half miles per gallon driving on the highway... at speeds between 78-80 .. I had a 7 and a half hour drive, so I decided to measure my milage

I go w/the flow of traffic, usually in the left-most, or 2nd left-most lane. I don't weave. (Trying not to incriminate myself here)

Mad_A: what do you get for city/traffic driving?

I just find it weird that i get better city than hwy.

I haven't measured it acurately, but I know it was definately less than that hwy milage of 27.5 mpg.. probably less than 25. I would measure it and tell you, but my car is currently engine-less, waiting for a 3.5 to be dropped in, so that will change my milage.

In theory a 5spd should have better gas mileage in the city. Our gearing is too short on the highway (3000 rpm @ 75mph). The auto has better highway mileage due to the taller gearing.
