Tried installing short ram intake

Hey guys,
Well today was my day off, and ironically ir ecieved my intake that i ordered on ebay this morning. So i set off to install my intake - mind you im new to the whole modding scene.

Now my question is, I noticed a lot of sensors that were hooked up to the stock air intake/induction system , such as the sensor thats hooked up at the bottom end of the intake (i think its called air intake temp sensor), and one right infront of the car where the intake is. Now my question is, where do these sensors plug into? I know I can leave the one thats in the front dangiling cuz its already connected but what about the air temp sensor?

Now that my questions are put to the side, I can vent about the intake. So I try installing the intake and I realize that the tube (piping) for the intake has 4 connections to it, when the maxima has only 3 vacuum lines. Topping that off, the maf adapter plate that was provided with the intake has no holes in it!.

upset with all this, i decided to put back my stock intake back in. After about 30 mins, I get everythign back in, mind you I could only fit half of the scrwes back in. I go and start the car and now I have the service engine light. I've diagnosed the codes, and the first one is 04 01 (air intake sensor) and the second one is 04 04.

SOmeone pls. help me out

sorry about the venting

Thanks again guys.

if you can, drill a hole in the top of your filter and plug the air temp sensor in. reset your ecu and see if the SES still comes on. pics would also help.

Im kinda lost with the whole deal of installing this. My friend has a 5th gen, and he told me it toko him not even 20 mintures to install his intake. I took off the entire airbox thing, and the big air induction thing that sits in the front of the car. I'm also having problems takin off one of the bolts on the maf..

Thanks.

you just unscrew the intake assemply and put the new one in place. The air temp sensor doesn't really do anything. Mine is just taped to the back of the MAF since my intake has no place for it to go. I drove without the air temp sensor for a couple weeks with no difference to my car. I only reinstalled it since it was setting off my CEL.

Also, this is the intake that I baught

If you notice, the midpipe has 4 connections to it, and from what I"ve seen there are only three vacuum pipes your supposed to attach to that...in that case, what do i do w/ the 4 connection?

Also, the maf adapter plate has no holes in it? Is there somethign I can do about that?

Thanks.

Just leave the stock snorkel in the car so you won't have to worry about the IAT sensor. It's not that hard to drill holes into the MAF adapter and to cap off an extra nipple.

Hey guys,
Thanks for the quick responses

99grnmaxgxe: so your sayin ot leave the entire unit that comes from the front of the car on, but take the entire airbox unit (the one connected to the engine) off and replace with the aftermarket intake?

Also, how do i cap off a nipple?

Thanks again guys.

Sorry for the lack of words, and me wasting your time. I've been a member for quite sometime, but the mod bug just bit me!

Thanks again.

Yes, just leave the entire front snorkel part of the intake. They might sell caps somewhere you have to find out. Tape might cut it but it's ghetto. ROFL it took 4 years! At least or hopefully you have money saved up to mod.

K sounds like im gonna give it a try by levaing the air snorkel on, and gonna use duct tape to block off the other connection. I jsut realized I forgot to mention, im having trouble takin off the last bolt thats holdin the maf adapter on to the intake!!! I cna't seem to get teh bolt off?! anyone else have any problems like this?

Thanks.

EDIT**
Oh yea - I reset the ecu for the two codes that I got. The SES light went away when the key was in the 'on' position, but when i started the car back up again..the light came back on. How important is it to get the air intake temp sensor fixed? is it an expensive part?

i learned DOUBLE CHECK EVERYTHING.

You don't have to get a new IAT sensor, if you drive for a couple of weeks, the codes should go away.

i just checkd the odes again, and now im gettin 0401 - air intake temp sensor and 0304 which is knock sensor.

Should I wait a coupla weeks before I take it to the mechanic? Also, its okay to go ahead and install the new intake with these codes right?

Thanks again.

HEY GUYS,
just had to bump this thread back up - have another quick question.

The sensor thats in the front on the air snorkal is the Absolute Pressure sensor right? But if you follow the air snorkel to the back, towards the obttom of the 'piping' there is antoehr sensor, is that the air intake sensor? I'm only asking this because like I"ve stated before, Im gettin gthe code. (witht he knock sensor)

Thanks.

EDIT
*the car drives fine, but I was wondering if the light woudl go away by itself?** Also, I can leave the entire snorkel with the two sensor attached when installing the short ram intake right?

I don't believe we have a MAP sensor, at least I've never seen one on the 4th gens. I've not seen a sensor on the plastic air snorkel (and I've had it out countless times). There is an IAT sensor screwed into the side of the upper air box, and the MAF between upper air box and midpipe.

He has a 97+ the IAT sensor is in the middle of the snorkel, leave it there, don't mess with it. Also we DO have a MAP/BARO sensor, well at least mine did. OP, just drive around for a while (3wks) and see if the light disappears.

I don't think there is an exact way to put it in, as long as the intake stays up your good.

K,
sorry to dwell on this topic for so long..but I'm about to wrap this up.

I have the intake laying down kinda behind the battery terminal, it doesn't relaly budge but is it okay if it sits there?

Also, I need some sort of cap to block off one of the openings on the midpipe - is theer something out there that I can use?

Thanks again.

Try to fabricate a cork into it somehow, I don't know, get creative. If the intake does not move around, leave it alone.
