slowness

i have an 2002 infiniti i35 and i think i have a big problem. i installed a injen cold air intake from a 02-03 nissan maxima which is great. however, i don't hear any sound from the intake when i rev. my friends tells me that the ydon't hear any sound from the intake. instead, they hear my exhaust and engine more. Why am i not getting any sound from my intake. i have an aem dry flow filter on the intake. do you think something is wrong with the installation or my sensors. also, my car feels sluggish on the highway. i am running royal purple motor oil. i drive like 75mph but cars are passing me like crazy. Cars that have low horsepower. please help me.

I can see why you can hear your exhaust over your intake.

Other than that, check all your vacuum hoses to make sure they are all sealed and no air is getting sucked in after the MAF (unmetered air)

Your exhaust will always have a louder effect from a listening aspect. Don't worry too much about the noise. Intake + exhaust = more horse power. If you worried about people speeding past you; Punch your gas pedal a bit. I drive on a busy freeway all the time and even me speeding at 80 mph seems to be a bit slow compared to the crazy fools up here. Nice car.....BTW.

Just because everyone passes you up on the freeway doesnt mean your cars slow.

You're gonna have to be more specific. "Mycar won't rev past X RPM" or "I loose power after X RPM". Describe why you can't (or won't?) go past 75MPH.

-1 for the muffler poking out like a cold nipple.

If you are getting passed at 75 mph by lower hp cars, they are just driving faster than you are. Pretty much any car on the road these days will go at least 85-90 and most can easily break 100. Some cars are safer at higher speeds than others (imagine your car and a lifted Excursion doing a 75 mph evasive maneuver).

Your motor oil will hardly, if at all, affect your engine's power.

My car is slow. As I was driving down my residential streets on the way to my house, I got passed by a kid on a BMX going at least 20mph. I was going a steady 15mph.

It's your gas pedal actuator. Thats why you are getting passed by lower hp lawnmowers. Replace your gas pedal actuator.
