New sticky for rear brakes please!
New sticky for rear brakes please!
I was going to replace the rear pads and went all through the stickies and nothing . . . searched the forum for ages and read enough on it to decide that it would be a better idea to take the car and new pads to the guy at the bottom of the road.
It would be great if someone could add this procedure to the brakes sticky!

same as fronts, just this time no C clamp to push in the piston. you need to turn it clockwise i think. either that or counter.
everything is exactly the same execpt for that. plus rears are a little easiler to do since they are smaller.

Replacing the rear brakes is fairly simple. Much easier than the fronts, I think. All you do is remove the parking brake cable from behind the caliper. Then loosen and remove the top caliper pin (as in my 5th gener, anyway..4th gener I'm not sure if you have to remove bottom pin as well). Once removed, the caliper should slide right off exposing the pads. Remove old pads, shims and retaining clips. Inspect retaining clips for damage and replace if necessary. Nissan sells these as a whole in their brake hardware kit. Clean all dirt and grime where the clips sit. Remove cap from brake fluid reservoir. Install new pads with anti-squeal compound (to avoid noise) on back of pads and compress piston in by turning clockwise with long needle pliers, or better yet (what I use) use a piston tool to compress the piston in. Once piston is in far enough for caliper to fit over pads (also, make sure notches on piston line up perpindicular with center of caliper so that they line up with the pins on the pads) grease caliper pins and tighten back up. Do not over torque the caliper pins, because they can be easily broken. Replace parking brake cable and install cap back on brake fluid reservoir and you're done!
