Whis is the Latest & greatest DVD/ Nav In dash w/ 7" screen!??!!?

Hmm...

I havent followed up in a while...

But who had the cleanest and best picture quality In dash DVD & NAVIGATION unit?

I was looking at the Pioneer Z1 since it is a double din for my Infiniti G20.

I havent shopped for something like this in 2 years, so im out of the loop.

I definatly need
DVD playback (hacked or not)
Navigation
Ipod/aux input
surround sound w/ center channel capability
Decent voltage output 4v or even Optical Out (for rockford 3sixty)
Bluetooth is a nice find
7" only w/ touch screen.

Prefer Double din, but will consider fold out units 2nd.

I am definatly most concerned about the DVD playback quality, as Navigation will be a convienence feature, rarely used.

So what are the nominations?

Alpine, Pioneer, Eclipse, and Kenwood make some good double-din ones. Look em up on their websites.

Hmm, mabey I should clarify.

I am familliar with all thoes brands. However, some people have looked deep into this category of product, and have become experts.

I would like to see what people are buzzing about about products from each of thoes brands.

There has been alot of changes and advancements in the past few years. I'd just like to see whats the hottest multimedia system is so far.

You're probably best going with the Eclipse AVN 7000 or 6600. The 7000 is the cat's meow and has a number of bells and whistles including HDD, TFT, 24-bit DAC, 5V preouts, DVD player capability, and 'dual-illumination' which essentially means that you WON'T loose resolution in the sun as well as a host of other goodies.

The AVN 6600 is similar to the 7000 but lacks a HD and memor-stick input.

They both also have 'dual-zone' operations in which the driver can use the NAV and the DVD can play videos via rear ouputs.

IIRC, neither can play DVDs (in the front) while driving as they are equipped with gyroscopes that detect motion that relay to the DVD function...but don't quote me on that.

In any event, talk to Don of course as he is an Eclipse dealer and can relay the more intimate operations of this far better than I ever could. AND you know his price can't be beat.

A link as well...

To touch on the info provided by Dan..The AVN7000 is hands down the best on the market for the audiophile, but only when paired with the DCU105 processor. Of course some fanboys may mention the Alpine W200 + H701 + Navi, but that = ALOT more money.

As far as the features listed above for the 7000, that Is with the DCU. Without its a bit more simplistic, but still an excellent unit. Although its a single din 'flipout'. The 6600 is the double din version, but lacking the processing capabilites.

Eclipse IMO (although shared by the majority of population) has the most responsive touchscreen, as well as the quickest reroute software. You Wont be displeased by it.

Both will play DVD on the fly with a simple grounding of the park brake wire.

If going with the 7000, it would eliminate the need for the three sixty. But I must ask Larry...since when did the three-sixty have optical inputs?

Well im not one to argue with you don, not to mention im sure the eclipse piece has more features than the blackbird, but

Alpine W200 + H701 + Blackbird w/ dock(links to w200) = right around the same price as the AVN7000.

The separate $2k piece Alpine sells doesnt HAVE to be used to get navi..

And the Blackbird can be taken into any car, unlike the eclipse. just another option, china.

flameaway..

Interesting..

Now, the other question is....

as with all technology, is there something else thats right around the corner from these products?

Next model year? advancements? etc..

Or will these units be cream of the crop for atleast another 6 mos..

Bascially, if you had to buy yours within 1~2 months..would it be one of these units?

Without a doubt the 6600, in which case Eclipse is currently working on an interface for the double din units to reflect that of the DCU105.

I actually bought an AVN5435 from don earlier in the year..then recently bought an AVN6600 to replace it. Here are my thoughts:

1. Quicker Mp3 Access to folders/tracks
2. Much nicer GUI
3. MUCH better subwoofer control. Level 1-4 (old) vs. -6 to +6 db level adjustment + SLOPEs + crossover + Phase shift
4. Navigation works w/o the VSS wire for simplier installation but the unit works PERFECTLY with the wire. On the 5435 you could not do ANY navigation w/o the VSS wire.

I will have to concur with the 6600 is the deal. The only thing it lacks is the processing but if you have a 360 problem solved.

Any idea if eclipse is comming out with any kind of bluetooth support?

Would make it easier to combine high-cellphone usage, instead of adding a Parrot type device into the mix.

My best pal owns two stereo shops up here in Vancouver, Canada and has access to all the major brands, I wasn't bothered about NAV even though it can be added, my main concern was picture ( DVD) quality and sound quality (DVDR, CD etc) he recommended the Kenwood Excelon DDX-8017 even though it's not the latest and the reviews seem to back it up. As with the eclipse 5435 it's a true indash doubledin but 6.5". Good luck in your seach. Sorry I haven't installed it yet so no pics as I'm saving up the for speaker seperates as the Bose aren't going to do this unit justice. Good luck in your seach.

No-one mentioned this but if you want 7" you should go with the Z1. Im pretty sure the eclipse is not 7". I have the Z1 and the quality is awesome and so is the sq. This thing does everything and it has a bunch of different map views like 3d, etc... It can also do bluetooth, and iPod and has a 20 gig hard drive, and is cheaper than the eclipse.

AVN7000 is the 7" flipout. Look it up at www.eclipse-web.com

here are pics of my avn-6600

PROs: 5V preouts for very nice high quality sound, touch screeen is the best out of a lot of touchscreens. Plays mp3s, dvds. the Avn6600 has DUAL dvd drives so you can leave the navi disc in there and play a cd/mp3/dvd in the other drive. OR you can have it output to some rear seat monitors and do something else in the front like the radio/sirius/dvd, etc. MP3's are easy to navigate.

Navigation is VERY precise.

Cons: the double din doesn't have a detachable face...so it's out in the open for everyone to see and think about stealing/steal.

Install: free... did it myself. The brain is part of the double din unit. No hideaway unit for the GPS for this one. So for the most part it installs like a regular headunit with the exception of the parking brake, speed sense wire and steering wheel remote wires (if you buy the SWI-ECL).
