Throw out bearing or input shaft bearing noise? Which is it?

Recently I've noticed that I'm getting a noise from my tranny. At first I thought it was my TO bearing, but after talking to some people, it sounds like it may be the input shaft bearing going bad.

If the car is in neutral, I get a slight chattering, but when I push on the clutch the noise goes away. From what I understand, this is the opposite of what happens when your TO bearing goes bad. Can anybody verify this?

The tranny is a rebuilt unit from Phoenix Reman. Trannies I bought on Ebay 3 years ago. The TO bearing is a OEM unit I had installed with my Spec stage 2 about a year or two ago. I've heard of people who buy reman trannies and the shafts aren't shimmed properly, so after 15,000-20,000 miles, the input shaft goes bad. Since I've put on about 20,000 miles on this tranny, it makes me wonder if this really is my problem.

Any tips or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

It's definitely the input shaft bearing. Make sure whoever replaces it reshims the tranny correctly, or else it's going to fail again on you prematurely.

it is the T.O. bearing which is causing your noise .if it was the shaft bearing then you would have atarns failure a long time ago
